Got pulled in kingston today for preventing an accident, was filtering along the main road by the bushy park enterance near hampton court and was approaching a bollad in the middle of the road so decided to go to the left of it between it a staionary car but the bloody car driver decieded to block my way at the last minute.

Had no other choice but to go to the right of the bollad onto the other side of the road which was empty, to prevent smashing into the car or the bollad.

About a mile up the road l got flashed by a grey volvo which pulled me over, and out steps two white caped Traffic police (brown pants moment) Embarassed . The storys about traffic police being the hard core Waffen SS of the poice were confirmed in the next hour firstly they said they were doing me for going arouind the bollad and that l was going to recive a £60 fine and 3 points but while one of them was writing the ticket out he suddenly noitce that the law had change and it was now a £30 fixed fine, which got the other one anyoned and was saying things like "can,t we do him for more"

They then informed me that they were going to check over my bike, where they noticed my remus race can stamped "not for road use", recived a 7 day refeaction notice for that (have to now find a standard can in 7 days) Sad

And after l had recvied the previous l was searched under the "anti-terrorism law" and slaped with a producer for my documents.

Normal police would of just told me off and would understand that l had no other choice but to go to the right of the bollad, but these wankers are like machines there even speak with blank faces and no emoticons just like the Borg.

I reckon you should make a complaint that you were serched on a terrorism law after a road traffic incident.

I reckon thats an abuse of the law. I think the police should have given you the benefit of the doubt, but I know that they refused to change their view of the situation after your account because they dont like to make a u-turn and they probably objected to you not taking it on the chin.

I would definitely be making a complaint, maybe requesting that you recieve the 'official' action you should have taken.

(If it was not to have been filtering in the first place, ask why you weren't done for this, rather than a result of this.)

They have the power to stop and search you anyway. However doing this under the anti terrrorism laws is taking the mickey.

All the best

Confused Eh? confused. Guess they must stop lots and lots of couriers and 'peds then for going around stuff. Stopped for 1 hour for a minor traffic offence. Guess these guys are (a) bored and/or (b) worried by real paperwork.

On the up side good that you didn't get the points. On the down side worrying that one didn't know what law he was supposed to be upholding Rolling Eyes

Having said that, rather have a copper who can use discression than a camera that can't.

That was a fair cop.
They never asked to do a body cavity search.
And tuff for using a race can.
You ride the bike knowing that it's not legal so you takes your chance.
Maybe they heard your can.
Bad luck tho.

*arsehole head on*
You were filtering too quickly so were not able to stop.
You contravened a keep left bollard.
You were using a can which states it's not for road use.

I reckon you got off light, could easily have been a driving without due care or attention.

I use a race exhaust, well it's actually a blue flame with removable baffles, the baffles aren't often in but if I do get caught I have to except the punishment.
The bollards thing I've been done for before as well, 'cept I was in my car and needed to turn right after the bollard, the road was clear so I went. There was a copper waiting for idiots doing the exact same thing!

Look on the brightside no points, no court case, no accident and pretty small fine.

The government managed to get the anti terrorism laws through by assuring parliament that they would be used only when absolutely neccicary and that their use would be monitored.

Police using them to basically make the publics life more difficult and without sufficient justification is in clear breach of what the laws were designed for. I would not just be complaining to the police complains authority, but i would be writing a letter detailing all of the above to your local MP (prefferably all of them, that way one might do something when the others start giving him/her shit over it).

yeah i like the idea of complaining to mp if they did actually quote ant-terror law and not just do a stop and search.

but then that would actually be a bit of hassle and im lazy so i wdnt bother as its not like you will get any benefit from it

Yeah but to be honest, filtering is not a right. You are essentially overtaking and you should be looking ahead. If there is a keep left bollard in the middle of the road you should not be filtering, you should be pulling in behind the car.

I know it's harsh, and we are all guilty of riding not quite by the 'book'! Personally I reckon you just have to take it on the chin and accept you got done, luckly you only got done by the police, a few seconds later/earlier and you could have been done by the car driver and that would be a lot more annoying plus it may have taken you and your bike off the road Crying or Very sad

Just my 2p worth.

I dont really think you prevented an accident to be honest mate, you could of just waited and got past when the car had moved a bit. Dont get me wrong, I do it myself, but I wouldnt use the excuse that I was preventing accident's by using the other side of the road.

theres no harm in a loud race can ffs. People in subarus have big ass exhaust's and some reason there road legal. Going racing past my house at 3am is to loud so why cant motorbikes have big louder race cans just stupid if you ask me.

All vehicles are subject to the same laws. No exhausts are allowed over (96db I think but could be wrong!).

But to be honest, even a race can has to have an engine going at fairly high revs into it before it breaks the limit.

I'm always amazed that Harley's are street legal!

IMHO Race cans are a valid safety feature. Car drivers don't generally see you coming but if they hear a loud can they are more likely to become aware of a bike.

Filtering past central bollards is always a big no-no for just this reason I thought? I know I'd be pissed off if someone came round my side of the bollards because they couldn't stop in time.

Yes the policemen went over the top, but they no doubt wanted to teach you a lesson you'd not forget. Pity they couldn't just use a few choice words to tell you not to filter like that rather than spouting all the anti-terrorism bull though. Thumbs Down

You live and learn, the can isn't an endorsable offence anyway. Better to be inconvenienced by being sat at the side of the road than by points on the licence.
