Dudes - how much would you expect to pay to re-spray a tank. The colour is a metalic black, and is a stock Yam. colour, so nothing complicated.

I have been quoted £120, which to me sounded pretty steep. How does this sound to you lot?

Cheers,

L

Hi

Sounds about right (put it this way, Dream Machine will want around £750 for a respray on a faired bike), but for a basic single colour it may be worth talking to a few car respray shops.

All the best

Keith

Might be a 'who you know' arrangement to get you the best deal, friend of a friends mothers uncle type of thing.

That does sound like a pretty regular quote, but shop around and see what you can do.

Why does it need a respray?

If its scratches etc.. might be able to do a touch up job and save the cash.

cheers folks. needs a respray because it is silver, and my bike is black. Although I am thinking it might be cheaper to get the rest of the bike done silver. Kidding.

I bought a 2002 tank for a 99 fazer. Hoping it will fit - it is a different, more attractive shape. Basically I am just trying to tart up my fazer dressed as lamb. Embarassed

Cool, long as it fits!

I would really advise getting it shop done as opposed to yourself then, considering its mostly for aesthetics on a valuable bike.. and tank is a bit of a proficient piece to c**k up.

I dont know a huge deal about it, but isnt there various sanding down to give it a surface, then coat this way an that with this an that... just gets complicated and expensive to mess up.

Do it yourself, spraying is easy, i can do it and i only learnt during the summer holiday, just buy a tin of hammerite spray or something like that and spray away. Dont spray it constantly just spray on and off and wave over the part of the tank, if u dont want to do it send it to me with the paints and i will do it for ya. Its really easy and will cost about 20 pound for the paint if you do it yourself.

I did my whole bike frame in black and there wasnt a single drip.
My swing arm i did too, stand, engine lots of things. Its easy once you know how.

Don't spray it yourself, you will kn*b it up. Wink
When I bodged my ZXR I sprayed the front myself, it looked OK but you could tell it wasn't a professional job.
It will just cost you more when you decided "This looks sh*t best take it to a shop" as they will have to strip the crap you put on there. Trust me from experience. Rolling Eyes

ONLY do it your self if you know what your doing and have a good spray gun. I have sprayed stuff before but they were always things that wernt too important if they went wrong. Wouldnt trust myself with something like my tank.

A looked on google the other day (thinking of respraying the ZXR tank) and prices seem to be around £100 - £120.

Alright, my bike might not be a spangly R1 or whatever, but it ain't no ratbike!

Why don't I just tip a bucket of blackboard paint over it? Wink

Cheers for advice, it seems £120 is not that unreasonable then...

Sound reasonable for a pro-shop, if you don't know their work ask if you can have a look at some previous work. Good places normally have a list of satisfied customers who are happy to show you waht the shop has done in the past.
