I have been looking for a 2 stroke 125 for a while now, and have just seen this Yamaha TDR on ebay. What are people's opinions on this bike - has anybody on here ridden one? I am after something which I can use for a 5 mile commute to work, but also that will be fun to ride around at the weekends as well. Additionally, what would be a reasonable price to pay for this bike? I have searched on google, but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of information about this bike, was it not too popular?

Same engine as the Dt 125r, same frame as well i think. Actually i think it is just a half faired dt.
Might be wrong though, ask one of the bike boffins though.

If it is just a faired Dt 125r it will be a good commuter, more than enough fun at weekends and easy on the wallet.

I'd say it's certanly worth what it's at at the moment, and to be honest I think up to £1000 would be a fair price for that one Thumbs Up. The TDR should be reliable if it hasn't been neglected and its a good little 125. It's not the most ecomomical being a two stroke (60 mpg) but if you wanted economy you'd get a CG, right? Wink When derestricted it should be good for upwards of 20 horses giving 85mph or so, but when restricted it is still good for 70mph Thumbs Up . it certanly would be fun for weekend rides, and should be reliable if it hasn't been neglected.

The one on ebay seems in good nick for a 125, with a reasonable mileage and 12 months MOT, it seems a good bet to me. Let us know how you get on Smile .

Not a DT125 frame. Think most of the TDR125s (if not all) were built in Italy.

All the best

They were launched 11 years ago, so I expect a realistic project bike could be brought pretty cheap £250 or so perhaps a little more (due to the fact that spares from the bike could be sold by breakers to the DT / TZR lads).

They do seem fun, UBC go on about how much more fun they are compared to 125 race reps. The other thing they mention is that it has a tall seat hight, so bear that in kind if you are a little bit short.

Yep, with the proper YPVS engine. Cool If you find one that is not COMPLETLEY fecked you are doing well (and it will be expensive, I saw one with no top-end for sale for over £800).

Hooligan tool!

A better roadbike than the DTR, would be more comfortable if you held onto it long enough to use it on the motorway. Apparently less capable offroad, but still retains the bulletproof quality that (standard) DTRs have.

The TDR250'S are great fun, i had a go on one once and it was great, they have the same engine as the tzr250 (my bike) so they have about 50bhp at the back wheel.

The tdr125 is also said to be a good fun nippy bike.
