Mod 1 Weds @ 10:40....any tips?

How's it going?

I am just posting to see if anyone has any good advice for getting through Mod 1 test - mine is on Weds @ 10:40 am....... failure is not an option!!!![/b]

Have been using a GS 500 recently for training but I guess it depends what's available on the day - could be a CB 500. either way it'll be a 500 for definite. I? have practiced and the only thing I need to make sure is hitting the 30mph mark before the swerve and the emergency stop - without panicking and locking up!!

As said above mate treat as being on the road think observasation then task at hand. Hitting 30+ through speed traps is easy mate just nail it as you straighten up off bend and you will sail through trap with plenty of speed then once through speed trap roll off to reduce speed a little but dont brake

Check both shoulders before moving off.

You'll nail the speed, i hit 59kph on a 125 both times

Use your back brake for the slow speed stuff, helps alot.

Look up and round the corner where you want to go on the speed manouvers.

You have PLENTY of space for the U-turn

Stop INSIDE the boxes, not outside, or nearly in. I saw the guy before me fail on this.

If you get asked to do the swerve manouver, and accidently do the emergency stop, act stupid, play dumb, say you didnt understand, and he'll just ask you to do it again.

Bump it into neutral when at a stop (he usually tells you to)

When at a stop, left foot down, right foot covering back brake.

When doing the emergency stop, its mostly front brake use, if you lock the back up, take your foot off, and re-apply. He wont fail you if your in control


Your test only finishes when your parked up back outside the lockup.

Cant remember anything else.. hope some of this helps

Just listen the examiner carefully, understand what he is asking.
If your maneuvers are ok, then you should be fine.
The speedtrap like everyone is saying is easy - i did 60kph through there on a GS500, and that was easing off so i didn't over do it.

Relax, its fairly easy.

You get two goes at the speedtrap - which is handy, the 500 will easily get the speed up. I used my first go as a practice/sighter go'.

The swerve is fairly easy too - there's bags of space after the actual swerve to straighten up after the cones, the tamac in Rotherham is super grippy - like the surface of a rasp, so theres bags of grip.

One thing to note is that knocking over a cone - any cone during the test is a fault - even while riding around to get to the swerve test etc.

And the lady who does the mod 1 in Rotherham will do a dance if you pass.

Hi all, thanks everyone for the tips - took them all on board and passed with no minor faults so well pleased. I did make one mistake though and ripped round the bend for the emergency stop and didn't come through the speed trap (ooops, funny what nerves does eh ) I just apologised and smiled and he let me go again, although my instructor was pissing himself when we went back into the test room

I hit 60 kph on both swerve and emergency stop so fastest I had ever done it and U-Turn was a breeze - there's acres of space.

Mod 2 next and again, failure is not an option
