Well, i've got some balls and can use the clutch a little now to lift the front thanks to Binge's help.

Problem is, its still quite hard to wheelie. Even binge said its quite a bitch Laughing So was thinking about changing a sprocket.

Which would be more beneficial to aid 1st/2nd gear clutch wheelies. 1st has the power to lift up happily, I just bottle it Laughing

Im guessing the top end will take a hit, not too fussed.

Currently the acceleration isnt too bad, its not slow, but its not a ballistic missile either.

I'll have a look at sprockets online and se what I can get Laughing

Thing is, after watching Ben lift the SM and do over 70 going along the road past me Laughing then watching him really hammering the 750 and trying to lift the front, its pretty obvious I wont be able to do it Wink

I've given 2nd a clutch and pulled up on the bars and lean backwards and keep arms locked so I dont lean forwards and it still, feels like it tries to force it up but just wont go Neutral

Also, the R6 in your pic... doesnt look like you have any issues lifting sports bikes Laughing

For me it's the sheer amount of clutch/throttle you need to give to get the front wheel up. Coming from SM it just seems a stupid amount to give, hence I always back off. Have already had the front up on the 400 though, don't really see myself doing sustained wheelies though.

Nah, it's just where the gears are so bloody long.

First gear, as usual, is WELL twitchy.
And second gear, you need to be doing like 70mph to pick the front up. Any lower, and there is just no power in that area of the rev-range.

I was playing on it for ages, I've not no problems doing wheelies. It's a motorway wheelie bike. Wont wheelie at slow speeds on the current gearing.

Wouldnt go as sever as -1 / +2. Possibly just -1. Or even +1 on the rear, but -1 / +2 will really shorten the gears.

Haha, I had possibly the shittest SM known to man (google FMX650). Although I did alot to it, you still needed a quick flick of the wrist and some clutch in first to get it up. I want a go on his SM tbh! Laughing

I haven't wheelied on a bike.....Ever!

there, I have confessed!

Mainly because I have never tried, wouldn't know how to, and scared I'll crash the bike if I do try.

If you're local (Kent), We'll have to arrange a ride out one weekend.
Dont mind anybody having a blast on the YZF. if you crash it, the only thing that'll get broke will be the levers. Laughing

It's awesome. The only proper SM I've ever ridden really. I've had a go on plenty of DRZ400s, Husky 410s etc, and they all seem super slow compared to the YZF.

I've ridden a DRZ400, KTM640 and an SXV550. To be honest, the 550 was mental, it was so quick and loads of power. Went out for a ride with my mate who owns the 550 and it was slightly pulling away on acceleration compared to the KTM.

I'll not pay for someone to teach me how to wheelie with a safety device there... whats the point. It only comes up in 1st and if I overcook it, its going over anyway Laughing

Just buy the safety device like you said you get scared and bring it down, the wheelie teach would help you get over that surley ?

Without being a dick i'll shit it to when i try on bigger bikes Embarassed

i started learning wheelies 2 years ago and i still cant do it, although i think its a case of wont rather than cant, everytime i try i picture the bike going tit over arse and i always bring it back down after a foot of loft Laughing . I never panic anymore i just bring it back down slowly, i think i've sort of half given up on the idea, i just care about my bikes too much i think.

I wrecken if your like me and the thought of binning it holds you back then those wheelie schools are ideal, i just need to convince myself the world isnt going to end at 12 inches high and using someone elses bike that is unflippable would be ideal for that.

If you weren't so far away i'd go along to one with you, even if you come out of it no better off it would still be a good day i wrecken.

Bike hitting tarmac is the least of my worries, but does cross my mind sometimes if im far from home Laughing

Im working on lifting to a certain height and holding it there as long as possible. I work on the amount of seconds its stayed up and then try and get it a bit further each time.

Trying to work out how much throttle it needs to lift higher is the bugger, because the sound is almost too scary... puts you off just revving and going for it.

I've yet to get the BP on a sports bike. When I pop the clutch, I wheelie out that gear. Haven't worked out how to change gear whilst in the air or comfortably sit on the BP maintaining speed.

The 636, pop it up in 2nd about 40mph and put the front down at 100mph. Is that classed as a power wheelie? The KTM I was just getting to grips with BP wheelies, managed to keep them going further and further, were it would normally come down on it's own because it ran out of gear. Then I brokened it.

Haven't been as keen to try wheelying the 636 as much because it's not mine and I've already smashed a chink up on a push bike on it.

Took me 6 weeks before I would comfortably do them wheelies up to 100 without thinking, "Oh shit".

Even when I get my next bike, that thought is always in the back of your mind about wrapping your bike up and sliding it down the road.

Balance point is when you can hold a steady speed and RPM while on the back wheel.
It took me a couple of months to learn it properly on the YZF.
I also learnt how to box wheelie on it. I can pick it up in any gear, and end up in 4th. (Will also power up in 4th anyway).

The skill is transferable onto other bikes. I can box wheelie my mates R1. But just could NOT get to grips with Paddy's GSXR. Strange.
