Anyone know what they're like? I'm trying to get a feel for what bike to get next and when I search biketrader, there seems to be alot of these in my price range, and to me they look quite nice. I imagine they are less to insure than a CBR.

Opinions?

Should be a fair bit less, but pretty much superseeded by the bandit for a 'fun' bike.

i was looking at gettin one after sum1 suggested a 600 to me. the insurance was very similar to that of an unfaired 400, never had a go on one. look very cheap but i imagine it gets you from a to b no problem. ive seen loads about so i imagine the parts arent to hard to find.

They are a bit boring. Not particularly fast, but the unfaired ones look OK. Rot away in winter

I was hoping this post would be more posative-I'm looking at getting the 900 next.
Yeah, there's (many) quicker bikes but the torque of a de-tuned 900 must be good to use.
Also it's shaft drive, good range, good on fuel and has the optional panniers and stuff so it's a good cheap semi-tourer that'll be fun too.

Hmm.. negative comments... Sad

Well unfortunately I am quite restricted by cost and I don't want to pay loads for insurance.

I thought the half faired ones looked quite nice to be honest. I'm not really that bothered about getting the sexiest bike possible, I've got years ahead of me to buy a bike that I really want apposed to what I can afford.

Anyway it was only a thought because there were lots of decently priced ones around.

Yeah, there are. that and the insurance is what makes them even more tempting.
Also with such a big engine surely there must be a way of getting loads more power out of it...if you're that way inclined anyway Smile

I like the look of it, although I'd prob get some lower fairing for it, if only to help stop the winter corrosion.

I'm afraid nothing can stop the corrosion of a Yamaha Diversion.....it's the natural course of things Very Happy

I test rode one of these when I went for the GS and it felt very twitchy at the front end - got them to check the setup and they said it was fine - may be one off bike but I must admit other than that it was OK.

Was very high riding position too.

Much prefer the GS500 myself...
cheaper insurance and cheap to run - cheaper to buy and loads of fun!!!

Hey I'm a bloody poet now!!!

Sorry, i just don't like twins that aren't in a V!
I'm tempted by the NTV650 or later deuville. but the deuville's even slower than the Divvy 900!

What is a 500 like for riding long distances such as touring in Europe?

id say should be fine, definately enough power, and comfortable enough if you get the right one

even something like a GPZ5 would be more desirable than a diversion mate, and the parallel twins are sposed to be very reliable

GPz would be a better buy - divvies are just really bad.

however the old pre divvy XJs are sposed to be ok - theres a 6 and maybe a 9.

but yeh, despite sounding great and reliable and oh so good, there not. they break down, corrode, and then die.

you want practicality get an NTV650/deaville. just as ugly too.

Hi

The old XJ600 seemed to be even more badly made than the Diversion. The Diversion shouldnt be too bad, but it isnt really sporty.

I know someone with one who has had loads of problems. Well, really just the same problem loads of times. Every so often it just dies and will not start again for a random number of minutes / hours / days. It has spent ages in the dealers

All the best

Keith

But what if i've already got a GPz! The divvy does have all the optional storage that the GPz's don't. The Deuville does but it'll be about the same speed as the 500 twins.
I'm sure a 500 twin can't be too good for touring, plus they'd not be as comfy, and don't have very good wind protection

I had my CB500 up to Aberdeen and back no hassle. And that's a looooong way.

Yes, being unfaired sucked, so I bought a fairing Smile Problem solved.

I've had my old NSR, and my GPz550 upto york, from south london.
NSR wasn't even fully de-restricted at the time!
Also had the NSR slowly down to Eastborne when still in the breaking in period, was so tempting to give it some going through the ashdown forest!

Naa, but i stopped in...oh bugger, what's it called again...
i would look it up but i can't be arsed.
the kinda trangular shaped town with the double mini roundabouts and the 1 way road running alongside with lil shops along it.
anyway, i stopped for a piss there Smile
thing is, i was keeping it at about 40 cos i didn't wanna knacker the new engine, but i was brave and had it upto 50 at one point. how young was i, it was so exhilerating at the time! lol
