A black/asian/hispanic person is more likely to buy a comic if it has 'one of their own' in it. Also lesbians will probably be more likely to read batwoman comics (and then finger themselves afterwards...JOKING! )

Think about it this way; if we lived in Africa and there is a comic showing all black characters, and then they create a new white character, I am sure we will be more interested in it as we can 'relate' to that character a little more than the others (especially kids who will then dress up and pretend to be that character). Hence making the comic more interesting for us.
