Hi Guys,

Well, with my CBT under my belt, I thought I'd make some extra cash at the weekends by being a pizza delivery driver for Pizza Hut! Rolling Eyes

I've applied to my local pizza place and they're going to take me. First though, they say I need to take my "CBT Part 2"! Apparently this is another day (paid for by Pizza Hut) out on the road refining road skills. They're gonna organise it and get in touch with me.

Has anyone done this and could give me a brief outline of what's involved?

Cheers Smile

Lanman

Well its certainly nothing official.. Most likley just some kind of refresher course (basically one riding lesson i'd imagine!)

Probably nothing to worry about Wink

This sounds like it

https://www.camrider.com/showlondonhendonmap.htm wrote:
In recent years we have become more involved in vocational training for professional riders in the food industry, a group of riders who have, until now, escaped the attentions of the regulators relatively unscathed. In conjunction with Pizza Hut we have constructed a course of instruction for moped delivery drivers that goes beyond the present requirement of the law, and since 2001 we have held the UK contract for their rider training.

Professional Riders, Health and Safety and the Law

While it is currently legal for a learner rider (CBT holder) to use a moped for work, there is a conflict with health and safety guidelines. How many operators of high-risk machinery do you know who are allowed to do so with a learner's permit and without supervision? Pizza delivery riders have the worst working conditions, the most hazardous occupation and generally the lowest pay of any company employee. The net result is that the vast majority of riders are young foreign men who have recently arrived in this country, speak little English and have no knowledge of our traffic laws. Regardless of the licensing laws as they stand, it could be argued that these people should undertake slightly more training than that required to put a commuter on the road as a learner rider.

The government will not allow the present situation to continue and the choice for the industry is stark. Either it adopts suitable and effective training practices or it will be regulated, most likely with the introduction of compulsory full licences and job-specific training. Camrider and Pizza Hut have, in conjunction with health and safety guidelines, constructed a training scheme for professional food delivery riders that has significantly reduced serious accidents over the past 4 years and that, if adopted industry-wide, will almost certainly reduce the need for draconian legislation. At Camrider London we run approximately 1,000 courses per year for Pizza Hut who cover 8 million miles on their scooters over the same period.

By combining industry-specific training with high standards of maintenance and providing proper protective clothing, accidents are “no longer an issue” for Pizza Hut. After you have examined your company’s statistics, consider the real costs of accidents with regard to down-time for bikes and riders, court battles, compensation pay-outs and administration costs to name but a few. Attention paid to quality, targeted training at a modest cost both in time and money will save your company thousands in the long term and create a safer, happier, more productive environment for your riders.

The pizza boys round here are unbelievable. I've never seen filtering like it, and if you've seen my filtering, you can only imagine what these guys are like.

Clearly they have balls of highly polished titanium.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I'm looking at becoming a pizza hut delivery rider to help with my finances at uni. I've also got a bike licence so it'll help with the application.

Can anyone (OP?) give me an insight to the job?

Don't leave the top off the pizza storage box and ride at 60mph, might leave a slight trail of crashed cars with cheese and pepperoni all over the windscreen.

On a long unlit country road, dark as buggery with heavy rain I once saw a red tail light in the distance at an unrealistic height in the air before disappearing from view.

When my mate (I was a passenger) pulled up level with what I had seen we saw a stationary car, a totally destroyed step through (even the inner tubes were hanging out of the tyres) and a young foreign bloke laying on the floor moaning.

He'd ploughed into the back of a car turning into a hidden drive.

The poor sod's shoes had come off, but to give him his due he was saying he was okay and not to call an ambulance. I had to climb down into a wet ditch to get his shoes back. The car owner asked if I'd be his witness. After I had collected my bike from my mate's house and returned he wasn't so keen.

I think the rider was keen not to be noticed by the UK officials, but by the time I had come back on my bike they were carting him away in an ambulance and the car owner was shouting down the phone at the pizza company to come and get the bike and make sure their employee was okay at the hospital.
