I've got two (phone) line powered Cisco Catalyst 3550 24 port switches which I wish to connect using a standard 100mbs port (I don't have an adaptor for gigabit).

I'm using voice vlan 40 and access (data) vlan 20 - only these two need to be connected, I do not need the rest, though it shouldn't effect anything.

Anyone know what settings I need to set on each end?

Got it half working - can get a data connection, but can't connect at all to the voice side.

I believe it's a VLan ing issue - I've got:

interface vlan40
ip address 192.168.40.201 255.255.255.0

Yes I can't ping that address, despite the fact I can ping the three others I've got setup for Vlan 100,20 an 1.

I have a catalyst at home that has a HTTP interface, makes life a whole lot easier. Thumbs Up

IOS.

I've used a cisco http interface for configuring CME (Call Manager Express), but prefered to use the IOS, once I'd worked out what I was doing.
I don't believe these catalysts have a http interface.

Sadly, no, cheers anyway.

Doesn't tell me anything useful I don't know already, from what I can work out. Or of course I just don't know enough to understand which bits I should find useful Smile.

Now sorted.

While I didn't have to do anything on the first switch when I set up, the second (older IOS version maybe?) switch I had to specifically add the vlan using

vlan 40
state active

Vlan 20 may have been used in the past so set to active anyway, or it may have been because vlan 20 was data rather than voice.

Either way, it works now Smile.
