For my other half. She's hitting 40 this year and I have no idea what to get her.

She has a large family and there'll be a good few chipping in so the budget is generous. A bike wouldn't be appropriate as she would like any present to be something for life. She's not into jewelry or any of the usual material stuff.

It's a tricky one. Any ideas?

<Edited> OOPS! Sorry this is in the wrong forum. Embarassed

What about a hot air balloon ride..... I found that an awesome experience. Mine was on a balmy summer evening, over the peak district.......brilliant. The stillness and calm was unbelievable.
Thumbs Up

Depends how much you're planning on spending but a day out, weekend away or full blown holiday would be a good bet. Not really for life though (except the memories and photos).

Best pressie I got for my 40th last month was a surprise party that my daughter arranged for me.

She did it so well that I knew absolutely nothing about it. She had people there from all over the British Isles and she had mates there that I hadn't seen for years.

I will never forget it! Cool

Very Happy The party is being planned by one of her sisters.

The holiday idea was a favourite, but it seems a bit sly me getting an equal spend on me when it's her birthday. Same with the balloon ride.
But - the balloon ride is brilliant thought.

Well, you are going somewhere that she wants to go. I had to put up with taking my wife to Jamaica last year for hers. A sacrifice on my part, I tell you.

I managed to keep the location secret from her until the miserable sods at US immigration told her (we flew seperately, as I was in Chicago immediately prior to the holiday - but I was checked onto the same connecting flight, in the seat next to hers, from Miami to Montego Bay). I gave her a selection of envelopes to open herself at specific times with instructions on where to head for next (drive to Park & Fly carpark LHR, take bus to terminal 4, go to AA check in, etc.), and other envelopes to give to people at various stages of her trip (American Airlines check in staff at Heathrow were really great about it).

I would seriously recommend it, I couldnt get over, how quiet it was in the air.

I think mine cost about £135, that was approx 8 years ago.
