has any one got a number for them that will bypass the phone monkeys and go to a manager or anyone higher than them? weve had 4 final reminder letters through telling us to pay them £100 when they have £500+ that they need to refund us but are not. we have repeatedly told them to take the amount out of that the the dumbasses on the phones dont understand this and help would be greatly appreciated because it is getting on our tits now.
Lots of to anyone that can help

I had major problems with N Power. They didn't bill us for nearly 2 years, even after repeated phone calls and letters, then tried to ask for everything in one lump sum through a debt collection agency. We had received no correspondence from them after moving into a new house then all of a sudden we get a debt collector at the door. Every time I phoned and spoke to a Customer Service Rep I got reassured that it would be all sorted and there was no problem, every time I called them back to check on progress they had no idea who I was. I lived in a flat, then a house, a different address, ect.
I finally did a Google search for one of their high flying execs and wrote him a letter. I think he was Director of Consumer Energy or some such grand title. Both myself and my wife had kept a log of times we'd phoned, written, who we spoke to and what was said on each occasion. I photocopied them and sent them with the letter explaining how disappointed I was with his company and that they had failed on the basic fundamental business principle of customer service, as in they had none. Two weeks later I had a phone call from another exec, not as far up the tree as Director, explaining that he had been told to contact me personally by said Director and sort out my problem. He wiped all previous debt up to the start of the year and gave me his direct number in case of more problems arising. fortunately I have never had to contact them for anything else since. |

Hi
Right, bit more info.
npower started out as National Power. They bought Midlands Electricitys supply business (which had a small gas business). They then bought Yorkshire Electricity and later did a deal buying Northern Electricity (as well as picking up a few minor suppliers along the way), before being bought by RWE (owners of Thames Water). Each of these had their own billing systems (and not the same systems for gas and electricity). The Yorkshire Electric billing systems are now gone, but that still leaves loads on the Midlands systems.
It doesn't help that you can easily be on 2 unrelated billing systems (eg, we are on the Midlands electricity billing system and the Northern gas billing system). It is probably for this reason that the call centre is seemingly incapable of realising that you are in credit and debit.
Not so sure many of the others are really any better.
By the way, with the fragmentation of the electricity industry their are some real cock ups. For example modern blocks of flats with meters in the basement regularly have the wrong metering point number for the meter / flat it is connected to. After all, the people distributing the power and installing the meters hardly care about the MPAN.
All the best

Matt - Sorry mate I've only just seen this. I managed to dig out the letter I wrote last year. It turns out he's the CEO I knew I aimed high! I deal with our directors quite often and know that the higher you go the less they actually do and that they like to sling plenty of shit down on the lesser minions. I wasn't too sure where he would be based so I sent it to their registered head office address. It took a couple of weeks but it did the trick.

Here's a good example of their shenanigans ...
One of our supplies was upgraded ... we had a brand new supply and meter installed for the half hourly level of supply we needed.
That left the old supply and meter defunct. npower were advised (from past experience, always done in 3ways; email, snail mail recorded to both customer services and the regular account address and by telephone) that the old supply was no longer physically connected and they should make arrangements for the meter admin company to remove the old meter. Oh aye, this was January. Each month the reading company would send out the reader and he'd issue npower with the same unchanging meter reading. Each month we asked the meter reading company to pass on that the meter was defunct and no longer used, each month we contacted npower to tell them that the supply wasn't used. Each month we got a bill for £nil plus standing charges ... about £20 a month. I refused to pay the standing fees after the 2nd month. We started getting chasers for the £20 odd each month we weren't paying. I continually contacted npower to tell them that the meter wasn't physically connected to the electricity supply anymore and they needed to make step to get the meter removed.
Last month we got an estimated reading bill for this supply ... some £2000. ie 5 months after the supply went dead. ie 5 months of NIL readings. What on earth are they basing the estimate on?!
I rang them, again, and explained. This time I seemed to get someone who knew what they were doing. Apparently it would all be arranged, don't worry about that estimated bill, it'll be cancelled. The meter was (finally) removed! Result! ... ??? .. um no, this month we received another estimated bill, this time for £2200.
I ignored it. We got a reminder. I ignored it. We got the legal threat chaser. I'm ignoring it ... let's see them take that to court ... an estimated bill on a supply that doesn't have a meter and hasn''t been used for more than six months ...

Hi
Realistically a problem because of having seperate meter reading companies, with yet another company owning the meter. Chances are the problem is caused by a screw up on the part of the meter operator, still sending flows about the removed meter to your supplier. If so then a different supplier would probably have the same issues. Bit like changing your brand of petrol because you keep getting punctures on the motorway.
Don't expect any others to be particularly any different.
Should here some of the tricks that get reported by people which suppliers are trying to con into moving.
All the best

No direct number to someone but go to
https://www.saynoto0870.com/
That way you can at least call an 0800 number instead of paying through the nose for the calls while sitting on hold.
I find this REALLY useful with Sky!

... and today ... a Brand New Estimated Bill ... and a statement of oustanding balance made up entirely of estimated bills ...
Supply gone January ... still getting bills August ... and this is despite letters, faxes, emails, recorded letters, telephone calls to each and every single department I have a telephone number or address or email address for ... each and every time ... yes, I send out the same message to approximately 5 different recipients in 5 different ways each time ...

I agree with Keith. Energy Watch are brilliant, we had a problem with British Gas and they sorted it. ____________________ GSXR600K4 Blue - fastest colour. No mods as yet. Happy with standard bike.

Not worth the time cost ... what are npower going to do? cut us off? take us to court for collection of estimated bills on a non existant sypply?
I think there'd be more fun in going along with that, rather than get Energywatch involved.
Our new supply is now with another company ... sleeping dogs and all that ...
(I do actaully have an 'energywatch' file should the need arise - it's two lever arch files, about 2 or 3 inches thick each ) ____________________ James
