traffic lights camera?

Hi, I was wondering what the big grey boxes are at certain traffic lights (Wolverhampton Road for example). Are they there to monitor the traffic or are they some sort of mini speed camera that catch people running through red lights?

Yes, certain ones can also grip you for speeding too.

oh for f sake. I went through a red light this morning - well it had just changed to red literally a second before I passed through as I would not have been able to stop in time and thought it would have been safer. I probably even accelerated a little to get through as quickly as possible as if I chose to stop for the light (it was on amber as i approached) then it would have meant jamming the brakes on sharp.

Bugger so there are chances I can get done for running the light and even maybe speeding. oh well there goes my provisional licence. f'ing cameras, that damn road is plastered with them.

Sorry rant over now, may be I should have gone with the attempting to stop even though I am certain I would have passed the stop marker and probably ended up stopping blocking the path of oncoming traffic. I was doing approx 43mph in a 40mph stretch.
