Guys just to let you know that a friend of mines father owns a nice hotel on the sea front of Ullapool. The hotel is biker friendly and has off road parking. For more information look at https://www.thearchinn.co.uk It is a nice ride up if you are going up via Sky right up the west coast (weather permitting of course Wink ).

The only good reason to go to Ullapool on your bike is as a start point to ride it to Durness at one million miles per hour.

Do they do Langoustine in the restraunt?

Yeah they do Langoustine, some of the roads into Ullapool are nice on the bike. Its a good base camp for touring the highlands.

Only takes me just over an hour to get to ullapool, quite often go for a pint and some seafood then home again, I'll have to call into that hotel for the crack.

Hi Stevie,
Yeah spoke before.I,m having a set of tyres fitted at Spinningdale on the way up. What,s the road to Ullapool from there like, or are we better going up north and follow the coast road?

From Spinningdale direct to Ullapool it is a single track, not bad road can be dangerous with tourists and coaches so expect to go round the bends and have to use a lot of breaking. BTW Tom at Spinnindale is really cool tell him Steve from Ullapool says hello.

I have not had time to go up the north east coast but that is the way the rest of the BCF highland tour group went.

The roads are really good twistes and some really fast straights, the roads can be like sand paper to sticky tyres so its a good idea to get a new set.

What way are you coming up?

There's a few ways of getting across, depending on how much time you have and what time you want to be there, they all involve single track roads to some extent. The most scenic and its the way I took the highland tour is to head up to Lairg and then take the A838 to Laxford Bridge and head back south to Ullapool, allowing time to stop and admire the scenery/take photos/have a fag its about two hours, non-stop about an hour and a half to 2 hours. Going round the north coast via Wick Thurso etc takes a good 4 hours non-stop, the highland tour took 8 hours with photo/fag/food stops. To give some idea of miles, going via lairg is 110 miles, round the top, 220, if you take in John o' groats as well add another 30 miles

Ride down to Applecross from Ullapool is worth getting wet for.Two of the lads have,nt done it before and are sick of me telling em how good it is.
See yah

got to say that ullapool is an excellent base for biking the north west of Scotland. Plenty of good, reasonable B+B's and a couple of good pubs. have to agree with the previous poster, the road to Applecross, especially over the Coire na Bhain ( I think that's how you spell it) is to die for!! happy riding up there, be there again next year.

Watch you can easily miss the garage, look for old unused petorl station that is outside.

The petorl station is at the front and if you drive up the old road the garage is to the left, watch as its not a smooth surface and you can easily drop the bike.
