SR125 modding

Having seen the article in MCN today about cafe racers, was thinking - instead of scrapping the SR, fit dropped handlebars, move the seat back about 6 inches, and remove the silencer and replace it with a straight pipe.
Any further ideas or would it look absolutly cack?

Could look OK. You'd need to do something about the tank. Cafe racers don't have peanut tanks. Maybe drop the forks through the yokes a wee bit to tuck the front end under and make it look less 'custom'. Big round headlight rather than a bates type?

Or you could fit 18" rise apehangers, highway pegs and paint flames up the side.

You would also need to move the brake and gear change and pegs
back to match the sitting position. Thumbs Up

i've had the afternoon off, so i've been trying things out. i can actually sit in the pillion seat and feasibly use the foot pedals, so i could make a cover for the tank in an oblong shape. i've hacked off the front - fairing isnt the right word... tacky plastic shite is the closest i can think of - with boltcutters so just got the headlamp. i'm gonna take the dashboard (no other word for it) off and just keep the indicators and speedo, which i'll make a cover for out of chrome. Drop down bars are first on the agenda though.
If it looks crap - it'll be good for scrap!

Ok, you need some things called Jota bars.

See if you can work out some way of fitting footpegs further back and higher. Now undo the gear shift lever and rotate it through 180 degrees. Hey-presto, rearsets and racing change all in one. Rear brake is trickier to do, amy invlove some fabricating.

The classic cafe racer originated in the 1960's. The archetypal one consists of a Norton featherbed frame, probably modified with rearsets and a single seat, a pre-unit 650 bonneville engine, open bellmouth carbs, a polished alloy 'jellymould' tank and extreme clip-on handlebars.

Tarty bits could include some polished alloy rims, conical hub brakes and peashooter exhausts. Everything else as minimal as possible.

Heh - we get some 70cc affairs of that nature racing in with the Metrakit classes at MMRA rounds... miles off the Metra 70's, but still... they're interesting to watch...

I love the steeply angled bars, tank and short stumpy seat, there more I see of them, the more I would fancy owning one.
