Same sort of thing happened to me filtering past a van on the 125 an worman just stepped out looking the other way I slammed on the breakes and pulled the clutch in (but some how didn't roll off the throttle).
Stopped in time but my engine was screaming, now she's bloody looking.
Now if I filter and see a van I slow down more, well any vehicle that is taller than an average person, I assume theres someone there until I know different.

Pedestrians are weirdos, especially in London, they don't really value their lives properly.
Coming along the Cromwell road (not even filtering! normal flowing traffic) and I can see this bald guy on the left, step off the curb . He's got about 100 yards before my wave of traffic (me a taxi and the rest of us) get to him.
I'm thinking this crazy guy might actually have a go!! And sure enough he runs out, he's got three lanes to cross, I brake early and he's past my lane, the cab carrys on and beeps at him. He then goes into this rather strange silly run kind of picking up his heels as if be nipped on the heels by a dog and putting his hand out. When he makes it to the other side, he grins and laughs as if to say wow I made it.....
and they call us nutters...... ____________________ current bike: GSX-R 750 K6 stolen, found the next day in a van in Durham, returned to me 3 months later costing me my NCB and my excess...

you should have expected it nad even should have seen her ... people are normally taller than cars and you should have picked up her movement through the windscreen etc with your peripheral vision at the least ... if not, then you were going a touch fast to not see a ped waiting to dash through traffic ...
However, there's not a lot you can do ... I had an identical situation in my car:-
| Ninja on another forum wrote: | I've mentioned in various posts that every so often I experience something that acts as a gentle or poignant reminder that, despite whatever measures you take in driving, there's always scope to keep learning ...
Yesterday's for me:-
... in town, two lane one way system. The two lanes become one so you have to merge at some point. It's 'rush' hour although the traffic is solid and stationary in the left hand lane. I'm coming up in the right hand lane, slowing ready to merge ... I see a pedestrian start to walk from the far kerb, through the stationary line of cars, so slow a little more ... in full flow, the dumb cow walked straight out in front of me ... cue emergency stop ... going too slow for the ABS, the fronts locked up ... the ripping noise 'wakes' the ped' from whatever state she was in and she instinctively steps back ... I come to a stop a full metre past her ... she registers what she just about did and starts to look trembly and nauseous as she darts round the front of the stationary Cav ... I'm quietly sat staring at her in dumbstruck disbelief ...
How careful can you be? I was shitted up in as much as I'd have hit her square on if she hadn't stepped back at the last moment ... and I was awrae she was there and had modified my approach because of it ... it's a cliche - I'm a biker, I especially know what the risks are when there's traffic moving past a stationary line ... I live in a seaside town, I know the risks of drunks and ped's simply stepping out in front of me and yet, here I am still that close to twatting someone ... ?
A lesson learnt ... or rather, reminded ... |

get this ALL the time in london!(cause theres always traffic )
when im approching a "blocked" view then i slow down alot & rev a few times as im approching
iv had some van drivers put there hand out the window saying stop & 1st time i was like "WTF" then relised someone was crossing in front of his van & about to come into MY sight
does piss me right off though when ppl just "APPEAR" from inbetween cars & only looking @ other sides traffic & me being a "biker" when ever I cross the roads now, before im looking @ the other sides traffic, etc im still watching the 1st road im crossing for bikes
iv found race pipe + revs = THEM NOTICING! & TAKING NOTE FOR NEXT TIME ____________________ GSXR750
