I've heard about this game before but never got round to buying it considering summer is no time for PS2 games..
It was raining/grim on saturday so I thought I'd go and get myself a new game and shut myself in a dark room for the weekend.
I've heard mixed reviews of Tourist Trophy on here.
The shop I went to didn't have any for sale but they had it for rent £3 for 3 nights, I thought a bargain. I'll try it out first.
I'm VERY glad I didn't buy it!
What am I missing here!? How do you get the F'ing bike to turn a corner without running wide and falling over?!
I thought there might be a special 'lean' button but no I've checked the net for instructions.
I've given it quite a chance. I don't know if I've just played too much Toca but I really feel I'm missing something here. Is it lacking a sense of speed?

Can anyone explain how I take a corner at anything above 30mph?!

Practice. When I first played it I couldnt even go round corners but after a while I got a bit better. As for the speed thing I know what you mean, in the 3rd person view it looks like your going nowhere near the indicated speed but when in first person view it looks fast.. Confused

I will be giving it another chance tonight but I've never had so much trouble getting hold of a game.
A lot of driving/racing games can appear totally unplayable until you get that nack but this one really has me stumped.
I tried in 1st person and actually did do better but 3rd person feels very slow.
Do you 'tuck in'(L2) even on corners, does that help cornering or is it just for straights? I was hoping there would be a control to hang-off.

When you use L2 on corners you lean over more, that might help.

I used to play a lot of Gran Turismo before I got Torist Trophy and found the cornering hard to start with but now it feels really natural, If I play Gran Turismo now it feels really slow and boring.

Try practaicing on some of the race rep 125's/250's Its more important to get the right line to carry more corner speed. Then once you get the hang its a lot easier on the bigger bikes.

I used to race my mate on the TZ125 and still beat him when he was using any bike of his choice. His got better now and has started to kick my ass.

Its one of a growing number of games tailored to mad hermits.. takes a long time to get anywhere with it, which will piss you right off for a while untill you get into it, then you can be smug beacuse you can make it arround a course without crashing Laughing

2 player races arround the nurburgring were hillarious when my mate had just got it, got better at it but races are still 'ard as funk (you get tapped and your eating floor = loose)

(+where you choose your tyres you can choose lean in, lean out, supermotard, normal.. lean out seems to help with turning a bit)

This is my theory for me being so sh!t at this game! I have recently played a lot of Toca Race Driver 3, single seaters where it's over steer all the way. The bikes in Tourist Trophy need a totally different approach. I confess I went straight for the ZXR600 as well instead of the 250s.
I have had games before that seem unplayable to start with but have clicked into place. It usually results in more satisfying gameplay but this will take some work. It still seems like gaming weather so I will persist!

If you've got it for three nights I recommend doing the licenses as they teach you how to um..ride properly.

Yeah the lean button helps but you'll just have to get used to stacking it. Good fun taking the cork screw at Laguna Seca at over 170mph and not breaking.....

Yeah I agree with jonboy here. Doing the licenses is very important not least because it enables you to win all of the bikes. You should be able to do this in an evening or two.

Then go and try and win some bikes on the bike selection screen. Some of the harder ones require you to do a full lap in a certain time, without coming off the track - pain in the arse that!!

There are a few FAQ's on gamefaqs.com, one about body positioning is quite interesting.

It's worth remembering that it is quite different from car driving games. TT is not a patch on Riding Spirits 2 IMHO

I did look for a 'tutorial' section on there but couldn't find one. (I'm a bit impatient with the menu screens...which I must say on TT are exceptionally crap.)

Well this is the last night I have it for rent, so it's make or break time. If I get any glimmer of success i.e get around one slow corner without crashing then I will be tempted to buy if for nothing else just for a challenge.
Why couldn't you all have just said yes that game is crap and unplayable I could have walked away!!
