I've finally got the NSR back on the road. Having not used it since last May, except for getting to work when the SV wouldn't start, it fell into quite a bad state. The chain and sprockets were a rusted up mess, as was the rear shock. The subframe had started to rust also, and there was a loud screech everytime you hit the starter switch.
First thing I did was to paint the rear caliper, as road salt had stripped 80% of the paint away and had left it's mark all over it. OK, I'm not happy with the result, (I'm crap at painting,) but at least it wont start falling to bits or seize up. I couldn't bleed the damn thing though, and it looked like the bleed nipple was blocked. So I took the whole rear brake assembly off the bike and gave it a good clean. Sure enough, the hole in the bleed nipple had been covered up, so once that was clean and the brake refitted, the lines bled easily and a pain in the arse job was done.

Chain and sprockets were next. I got some JT sprockets and a DID O ring chain quite cheap and I had no problems with that, fortunately. Rear shock was also replaced with a brand new unit which cost me only £55, and now I can alter the sag.

I decoked the exhaust and panited it up with some metallic high temp paint, and it looks so much better. Lower fairings are off at the moment, until I can get some new brackets. I quite like showing off the exhaust though, so I might leave it for a while. I took care of the subframe with some Hammerite direct to rust paint, which turned out to be an almost exact colour match.

Indicators not flashing were fixed by ordering a new relay from Wemoto, and I found some bulbs from Halfords that were only 4W as opposed to the required 10W, but somehow the new relay works fine with them, so that's an ongoing headache finally taken care of.
Last thing was the squeaky start ups. I took the starter motor apart and discovered much corrosion. That's what you get for not replacing O ring seals when they're worn out. So I cleaned/regreased it, replaced the seal and the temporary cereal packet gasket, and the squeak has gone.
After a quick run round the block this morning to check everything was OK, I went to the local MOT tester and it passed easily. Insurance was sorted yesterday, and tax will come later today. So after over a year, I'm really excited about riding it once again, before Em takes hold of it in a couple of weeks.

Nice little tidy up job there
I had the same thing when I broke my brakes apart, the bleed nipples were caked in some funky stuff, some shifted with a small pin and a damn good blow.
The exhaust looks like new, is it dark grey (cos it looks better than black or chrome ) ____________________ Current : MSX 125 Past : CBR 900RR Monkeybike : c50 LAC : ZXR750 H2 : FZR600 : ZX7R P3 : YW100 : TRX850: Trophy 900 T309 : GSXR 600 L0: Monkeybike : XJ6S Whosthedaddy |

The exhaust is grey metallic. I bought it to do the SV engine casings, but then realised it was way off (for a start, the SV engine is black ) So I used it up and I'm glad I did. It has hidden a few scuffs and a bits of flakey paint. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/fuzzbcf/
