Hey guys

If I was to restrict a 600 bike what would change exactly? Would I still get a loud throbbing engine noise and there just wouldn't be any power after a certain speed?

Revs? Does it? None of mine have.

Just slows the thing down. Otherwise it's as it would be without the restriction. Just doesn't accelerate as quickly and will top out between 90-110mph (indicated)

Thanks for the help guys Very Happy

Another question, what IS the restrictor? I've heard it's just a bolt, but I doubt it is....is it?

On older bikes...it can be placed inside the carbs but more commonly, washers to restrict the air/fuel mixture getting into the engine.

On newer bikes, it can be a swapped ECU/CDI (the garage fitting this will usually keep your full power one)

I understand triumphs use a throttle stop to restrict to 33bhp. These are, as I beleive, the cheapest way to restrict a bike (£15). Only make them for their own bikes though.

i have a restricted bandit 600 and its just fine...ive got a race can on it so it makes the revs smooth though the gears instead of it bogging at high revs...mine tops around 100-110 indicated and it hasnt restricted the acceleration that much really still does 0-60 in about 5 seconds ish. A restrictor is 4 washers that go in your carbs that resctrict the bhp to 33bhp.

hpe that helps

Rather than start a new thread i tough i may aswell use this one as its the same topic.
I was just ringing round getting quotes for the 33bhp kits inc. fitting and its going to cost a bit more than i thought.

DMC - £250

QB Motorcycles - £135 labour Shocked and £110 for the kit = £245

Cradley Kawasaki - depends on how long it takes to fit. Avg. 2hrs labour at £45p/h so = £225 - 250

I thought they cost about £150 Neutral

Jesus Shocked That's quite a bit really. And doesn't it affect your insurance aswell becuase it's classified as a 'Performance Modification?' Even though it slows the bike down, it's just classed as a Performance Mod I think. Does anyone know how badly it affects your insurance?

I'll do this for edd Smile
*If your gonna leave em in dont bother paying for an fi kit*

It cost me £160, both bikes as my mechanic uses a flat rate, but if you can find the washers it will work out much cheaper Thumbs Up

I've just got a restricted Bandit & acceleration is still faster then most cars but ones you get into 3rd gear theres no power at all, i find myself changing down all the way to 2nd to overtake. As it's a courtesy bike i have no choice but to ride it like it, if it was my bike there's noway i'd ever restrict a 600. For a 1st bike i'd say it's ideal, but you will get bored in the first week or so because you know it can do alot more.

Unfortunatly it needs to be official, a garage after fitting them will send of a letter to the DVLA informing them that the bike is ristricted...and then they give you a certificate to prove it to the police

No it doesn't. Find me where it says you have to buy an FI Internation restrictor kit.

Jay

It costs the garages £139.95 including next day delivery for the kit directly from F.I Anything more is labour charges.

Alternatively, do a search and find who actually make the kits themselves (a german company, f.i jsut import them) and buy one directly from germany fooor...............88 euros. Smile

Good man.

Ask about what sort of information comes with the kit, if any. And about postage charges and payment options. As I'll pass on that info to everyone. Should be worth saving a few bob, I'll say!
