Dear Auntie BCF,

This has been bothering me for awhile, I often think of it whilst undressing and getting into the bath.

Are cats stupid or intelligent?
Do Cats/Animals understand the concept of clothing?
Or do they see it as that we just change the colour of our skin?
Do they understand what we do in the bath?

Please help, it drives me to distraction.

Our dog hates the bath and knows that every night at 1930 when our son has he's theres a chance that we will wind her up and try and put her in as well.

She's also quite freaked out when I put my lid on and just sit there.

Why do cats have a weird facination to watch you on the tiolet and acompany all guests to the tiolet. I dont watch them in their litter.

Also the urgancy to get into the bathroom and mow while in there at a wall they think there is a secret exit to is beyond me.

One my cats sits on the end of the bath while i am in it to.

I dont think that animals understand clothing but they may relate to its use, ie shoes for going for a walk

One of the funniest things I have read about cats is why they hound you whilst you are on the phone. Its seems because they have no concept of a telephone they think you are talking to them so they come over to see you.

I doubt they comprehend the significance of clothes but they do understand the importance of warmth, and since my cat always jumps on my warm kit, I think he thinks I just walk about in his bedding because its cosy.

They are intelligent to relate objects to actions i.e. if my cat heres the keys for the house jingle he knows the door is about to open so he will come greet you.

Cats are as intelligent as chimps and monkeys so its highly possible they know more than we give em credit for!

my cat often follows me into the loo as well then proceeds to sit down and want stroked. I guess they just like to follower there owners about as a sign of affection!

I doubt very much that cats follow you into the toilet to fullfill some deep rooted sexual deviancy but you never know, maybe as soon as you leave, their crakcing one off, kitty style

does anyone else cat claw at the wall and meow in the bathrrom like there is an exit there that we dont know about apart from the door? mine used to stand ontop the cistern and do that.

Got two cats, one just likes to laze around and do nothing, and the other (my cat) has grown a liking to my computer chair.

There smart animals, after my mum stands up to do something after sitting on the sofa, my cat decides to sit in her place...she decided to tell my cat not to sit there in her place, my mum got back and the cat had stayed on the arm of the chair, not sat in her place....

But I love cats, more personality about them than dogs, you can't teach a cat tricks...you can't alter how they think....A cat is it's self, and thats what I like to see in a pet Smile

Cats are fascinated by running water, hence the toilet thing. They will often stand and watch the water going round as you flush it.

Quite a few cats refuse to drink anything other than running water and pester their owner to switch on a tap when they are thirsty.

Turkish Van cats will actually get into the bath with you.

Cats are clever, but they dont have language so they dont think in sentences.

They are curious, so if they dont know about something, they will investigate. Dump some stuff in a room, and they will have a look and if possible climb in to investigate the bag, box etc.

So they dont care about what clothes are or why you are sitting in a container of water.

One of my cats has a funny habit. Before she drinks, she likes to put her front feet in the water bowl. Maybe its to check there is water in it. I dont know. Usually she stand in it, lick her front paw, and if the water is ok off her front paw, she will lap away quite happily.

I presume the cat bath thing is because they like the warmth given off by the hot water, got no idea about the toilet perhaps they are waiting for you to get in the bath.

Our dobe loves the bath on several occassions he has decided he'd like to take one when I'm in there the little twat it's not big enough for the both of us. Mad
