F**king Limewire!

My sister uses Limewire on the PC in her room, and when she's on the internet, she keeps it permanently connected. Now since she's been doing this, the internet speed crashes on my laptop so its like I'm back on 56k again. I upgraded for a reason!

Is there anything I can do to speed things up my end, or restrict her connection speed/bandwidth?

I just want a normal broadband connection, at normal speeds!

Go into the 'tools' then 'options' settings on Limewire and reduce the allowed bandwidth and amount of allowed uploads/ downloads allowed at any one time.

All filesharing/torrent programs are the same if you have a low tinterned speed.

Just took limewire off our lap top cause it had slowed it up so much.

Spend ages now cleaning everything out.

The bandwidth use can be adjusted through the options in Limewire - as above .

Just split the bandwidth to 50% - then you both have the same Wink

If theres a firewall on her machine (Like Zonealarm For example)

Go in there and put limewire on the Disallowed list, it won't let it connect to the internet and to your sister it'll just look like the limewire servers are down.

Then get someone on here to photoshop a fake website saying that limewire has been taken off the internet due to lawsuits Wink

Is she Computer literate? or just one of those that downloads everything and has 50 icons in the taskbar?

If the latter, download NetLimiter and install it on *her* computer, set to run at startup. That way you can cap all her downloads and uploads, not just for limewire Very Happy

I think Limewire will saturate the connection even if you set a bandwidth limit. the best thing to do is logon to the router and block the ports that Limewire uses.

Yeah, as they say... Options in Limewire... but if she moves on to torrents or other software it's just a circle...

If you're router supports limiting the maximum speed per port then you're onto a winner.

Get a router with QoS to manage the upstream bandwidth so peer to peer doesn't kill pings.

Something like the DGL-4300, which is aimed at gamers and has automatic prioritising.

It's not perfect, but its certainly better than not having it.

Which broadband are you on? With cable-based, if upstream gets saturated (which is more than likely what's happening) then downstream gets murdered whether it's saturated or not due to the way in which cable's infrastructure works. Everything depends on a functioning upstream.

Restrict upload speed within Limewire if possible and see if that helps you out...
