are my tyres safe (pics)

now this is my first bike over 600cc and the last lot were all 125's so due to lack of power i've never had to replace tyres (125's just dont burn rubber do they)

anyways ive done 6600 miles on this rear tyre, its deffo flat in the centre but is it safe to ride on as its gone a funny colour in the centre

also will it last another 500 miles as i need to ride to leeds and back next weekend

The wear markers Palmer mentions may not be for the UK legal tread limit for a bike (1mm for bikes). However looking at the 2nd pic I would suspect it is beyond the legal limit.

Those tyres remind me of my old 1's on my NC30, policeman almost booked me for that and my plate, except he let me off but advised me to sort it out. Mainly because i was with two people on 50's without L plates

there on way out DEFFO but not completly gone!

i had to go court for a bald tyre & it was on the cord & thats why they pulled me cause they saw the white part of the tyre

I still dont understand tyres on bikes, they look ok to me. They have grooves that may appear 1mm in depth across the main 3/4 part of the tyre or so?

tyres are expensive but then so is taking time off work ,

if you wanna measure it get some blue tac stick it in the centre tread and measure the lump that sticks into the tread ,

The legal requirment is:

Minimum of 1mm tread depth across 2/3rds of the tyre AND it must have visible tread across the full width/circumfrence (no flat spots)

I'd be changing it without question.
If your riding on a tight budget then go for Avon ST's next time, they'll see the bike out.

I'd say to the letter of the law they might *just* be legal.

However, with such a small amount of tread on the centre of the tyre you'll be aquaplaning in the wet. Scary shit.

that tyre may be illegal, but id use that for at least another 500 miles before it was deemed unworthy in my book.

ive been pulled many times with tyres far worse, nothings ever been done, and that LOOKS ok, only a truly pedantic prick of a copper would do you for that.

In the 3rd pic it looks ok and that's from a foot away. From the view a cop in a car behind you would have it would look perfectly fine and unless you plan on getting your knee down in the rain it will still have plenty of grip.

My last one was way balder than that. Yes i admit to not checking them as much as i should. But the point is, i never knew it was bald from riding it because the grip felt the same, even in the rain.

If in doubt change em! Do not dick about with something as important as tyres! I would have probably changed them before the wear bars showed themselves.
