Just rung him and the main thing is he's ok!! Managed to stay upright despite the chain parting at "70mph" ( ) so thankfully he's unhurt
He's getting picked up and then heading off to his girlfriends house which is nearer to him than I am. He'll let me know if he needs any more help though. |

Its ok, I am safe and alive.
The bike is being stored in northampton and I am where I wanted to get too.
Phoning the people that picked me up yesterday and they are going to take the bike to get a new chain and sprockets and take it back to their home address for me.
No damage to the bike luckily I could see, not even smashed the hugger or anything and when it snapped it just disappeared I changed down all the gears to see if they were still there and got it into neutral and all seems well.
Just have to phone some garages around northampton later today and sort out fitting of new chain and sprockets.
Had a very lucky escape really but spending a few hours at the side of the M1 was not my idea of fun.
The highway patrol people did stop and were really friendly, took my mobile number and rang me later on to make sure I was ok etc. Top blokes! (aparantly they spotted me on camera and came to make sure I was ok)
And if you find a chain between junctions 16 and 15a on the M1, please return it |

Main thing is you're safe, and luckily no damage to the bike. |

Glad it turned out OK
Out of interset, which chains have a split link? Ive just ordered an O RIng chain and sprocket set from Busters for my 6R. Should I be worried? ____________________ Yamaha rxs100 > Kawasaki ZZR600 > Kawasaki ZX6R > Honda Hornet 600 > Honda Bros 400 > Suzuki SV650S K2

And why would that be sir?
I get realy tired of people moaning about split links, and how they shouldnt be used on "bigger bikes"... Rubbish.
If you look after your chain, keep it clean and flexible (like you should anyway), then there is no reason why your split link should fail. If it was put on correctly, then there should be no problem.
Ok i can understand they are probably not the best for 600cc MotoGP bikes, or big 1200 cruisers, but there is no reason (AFAIK) that they should not be fitted to bigger bikes...
I've been running my speedway bikes on split link chains with more than 1 split link in, maybe 2 or 3 split links in one chain to create a chain of the correct length for the ever changing rear sprockets and wheel position. These speedway bikes are pumping out nearly 70bhp and are 500cc singles running on methanol. Now if i can race one of these around a track, with 3 split links in the chain, then im sure that there is no reason a bigger road bike cannot cope with one. ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... All I know is:
I set off with a chain.
Then the chain came off, luckily it came straight off and did not wrap around anything. |
