Don't go near them unless you want to spend an innordinate amount of time fixing things and having a worthless machine at the end of it.

A CG125 type machine for £5-800 will only have lost £100 max if well looked after in three years. A Chinese bike will be as good as worthless.

They have shockingly poor electrics (no pun intended) and shed parts, nuts and bolts everywhere. A socket set in your backpack and a bagfull of spare bulbs and fuses is essential to keep the thing going, especially in winter. About the only thing they have going for them is a strong (though very low power) engine.

Chinese bike = Thumbs Down

my brother has the offroad 126, the gy125 with the updated upside down forks.

within a few month most of the paint has begun to fall off the frame, various bolts have snapped or fell out.

you cant really moan though for 700 quid on the road, engines are a cg125 copy, ive seen him top out at around 60mph, full tank of petrol lasts him a whole week Laughing

i'v got a nock off SR125 made by a more reputable chinese company (kymco).
i have got to say it's done me incredibly well since i bought it in february. never had any problems with it mechanically.
i'v no plans to get rid of it as it's an awesome commuter.
if you're looking for something cheaper, go with kymco.

I've often wondered on these aswell. My neighbour hired one for a couple of days, and tbh, it doesn't actually look that bad, especially for the money. What he hired was a 'sky jet 125' which are all over ebay, for about £850 brand new(bike he had was an 05 bike). He commented on how much better the brakes were than the bike he used on his CBT. The only bad comments are there are small rust spots cropping up on the frame, and also you really had to rag it to get anywhere....though its generally the same storey with most 125's..(the ragging part Smile )

If it last a year or even better 2?? they must be worth it?? I was looking at the gy125 trail bike for £695 for the winter.. No MOT for 3 years...and maybe just check over the bolts, and threadlock them before using!????

...Trouble is I don't have the spare cash at the moment Sad

Tell you what puzzles me.

If you build a bike from old bits, or radically alter one (ie chop it, streetfighter it, trike it etc) you have to get an SVA inspection right?

If you import a bike from outside the UK and it's an actual bike rather than a boxful of bits it has to be inspected before it can be registered.

So how come you can buy a bike from China which is delivered to you in a box, put it together yourself even if you are a total mechanical numpty, register it and ride it without any sort of inspection to test that it is roadworthy?

Himself is currently experiencing a lot of these things as his company has done a distribution deal with one of the big importers so if you buy a bike off them (the Internet Bike Shop I think they're called) and you live in the North West you will get it assembled, PDI'd, road-tested and delivered by their qualified staff.

I think it's too early to tell how well they will last in the long-term cos they've not been around long enough. Build quality seems to be OK but we've only ever seen new ones so ask again in 6 months time!

He says the biggest problem reported back to the seller is when people have done the self-assembly and not known that they really should drop and replace the oil prior to use so the engines are seizing.

Dont buy a lifan. There not a cheap run around in the long run whe your shelling out a fortune and crackiing up when you cant get parts for the dam thing. And the fact it will fall apart within the first 2 years is amazing! speaking from personal experiance here.

I am still looking for a headlight bulb Crying or Very sad no one has it Twisted Evil

Have a look here.. https://www.vehicle-wiring-products.co.uk/VWPweb2000/lights-3/lights-3.html

The thing with chinese bikes is theres HUNDREDS of companys out theret, and allot exporting, some are teriffic, some are abismal to the point of being death traps!

Jenks off here has a chinese custom thing, basicly (as far as i can tell) a cb125 engine, theres been a fuel tank leak and a loose wire or two, other than that though its bloody good, a shit load better than my cg was for the money (disc brake, electric start e.t.c.) its two years old and time will tell..

Still its going to drive the horribly overinflated learner legal prices down pretty bloody hard, so it can only be a good thing Thumbs Up

I'd forgotten about the disintegrating brake light switch. The original fell to pieces in about six months. The pattern switch from wemoto disintegrated in two months. The official Honda switch is still intact and working, 14 months later. The Japanese know what they are doing. The Chinese don't, they are just copying designs and slashing costs.

I've just sold a Chinese XL 125 look-a-like for a pittance and finally got a Honda XR 125 which I should have bought in the first place.
If you are thinking of buying a Chinky you must first telephone a few insurance companies, in almost all cases they will not touch it with a bargepole as they have never heard of the make. Of the very few companies that will touch them they will charge you an arm and a leg as they have the monopoly.
Brake pads and shoes are made of wet cardboard. Bolts are all finger tight and made of blancmange. When you come to undo them they are corroded as dissimilar metals are usually present.
An allowance of 10% spares comes in the shipping container free with the consignment to the dealers. When these are gone - tough! Despite the claim of being Honda clones no standard Honda parts will fit.
The wiring on my bike was routed around and behind the exhaust! - it lasted about 5 minutes. The baffles became detached inside the exhaust pipe. The whole bike had loads of vibration and more rattles than a millionaires baby.
If you don't mind a pile of rusting dangerous scrap after a year then buy one.

Ive got a baimo.. Looks pretty good IMO but ive had a few probs with it. The amount of previous owners on a 3 yr old bike should of given it away. 03 plate and ive done 3k miles in as many months taking it to 6k on the clocks. only problem ive had was the regulator was arsed and still an electrical problem. Oh well you live and learn and dependant on what i can get for the bike io may just throw it away lol

I've got a chinky 200 for pissing about on green lanes etc.

Spares are plentiful, it goes okay, looks shite.

They're throwaway money - I paid £350 for a 1 year old bike.

It doesn't matter if I drop it, and I'm not good enough to justify spending £££ on an offroad bike.

They're better than people think, just not japanese standards yet.

My ride for this winter is a Hartford VR125. A trailie bike with a very robust CG engine. I've had it since new back in Feb '04 and after being left sitting during the whole summer I did an oil change and fitted a new chain, the battery is dead but who cares, it has a kicker too. Comes to life after about 2 kicks and is good for 60-65mph which is quick enough to commute to work and back. Only problem I have with it is that it vibrates quite a bit but that doesn't put me off and spare and new parts are plentyful.

Hi All

Well I've had a Chituma CTM125 now for just over 12 months, and I have to say that I can't fault it.

£500 in the crate, had to put the front wheel on etc, and then register it with the dvla. Have ridden it all year, in rain, sleet &snow. It's been covered in road salt. easily manages 70mph. It's not falling to pieces, and it's been really hammered in it's short life so far.

I did my cbt, then I bought the bike. Then from October to March last year I travelled 80 miles a day 5 days a week on it, just to get to and from work. Also during this time I used the bike to practice meergency stops etc, ready for me to take my A1 bike test. Again the bike was really hammered. Took my test on the bike, and passed !! Smile then I got a Jinlun JL250 (Yes I was that impressed with the Chinese bike, I bought another Chinese bike). But the chituma is still going strong, It's also been a practice bike for both my girlfriend & brother, and was even the bike they used to take their cbt on, and noe with the ropey weather returning, it's coming into it's own again.(Save's getting my Jinlun & Honda VTX1300 wet & dirty).

I have built up quite a good list of alternative parts that wil fit my CTM125, should the importter stop stocking the original Chituma parts, and as a result psare parts are, easy & cheap to find, even a snapped clutch cable only kept it off the road for 24 hours !!.

The Jinlun JL250, another fine bike, runs perfectly, manages 80mph quite easily, and even manges 70mph 2's up with luggage on the motorway from Wolverhampton to London & back, again without skipping a beat.

So why the Honda VTX1300, simple, Jinlun don't do a big bike, although a 400 is on the way, to be honest the Jinlun is of a similar build quality to the Suzuki GZ125( My girlfriend has) and Honda VTX1300.

I think the biggest problem with the Chinese bikes is purely down to a form of Bikers snobbery, and lack of understanding !!.

Cheers
