what flavor is in carbonara sauce? i acidently ate a dolmeo one a while ago, due to the none mention of wheat and it didnt say contained 90% wheat flavour one day and the consquences where horrid as i am allergic to wheat and gluten. I had my gluten free pasta tonight but was assured this carbonara sauce had no wheat or gluten in it?

so what flavour is it if not wheat? i dont fancy a bad trip of sickness and hundred other things Question

Hi,

Its cheese and ham flavour sauce however the sause could use wheat or corn flour and addititves. so its hard to tell, it does not have to have wheat and gluten in but ti could have

Regards

Dolmio is pretend sauce.

Get a proper recipe (similar to what colin1 says) ... and you won't see a smidgeon of wheat in your recipe - apart from the spaghetti you eat underneath it.

4 eggs
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. cream
1 lb. fettuccine (or spaghetti)
2 (3 1/2 oz.) pkgs. sliced ham or bacon, cut in strips
1 c. grated Parmesan cheese

Arrow Fry bacon or ham in a small amount of oil.

Arrow Eggs, butter and cream must be at room temperature. Beat together eggs and cream until blended.

Arrow Cook pasta 10 to 12 minutes in boiling salted water. Drain well.

Arrow Turn pasta into a preheated (250 degree) ovenproof serving dish.

Arrow Toss pasta with butter and bacon/ham.

Arrow Pour egg mixture over and toss. Add cheese, toss to mix.

Arrow Serve immediately, with salt and/or pepper to taste.

strictly speaking you dont have parmesan (or any other sort of cheese) or butter in carbonara, but im sure it tastes nice

i prefer to keep it simple, but some ppl like to add mushrooms, n all sorts

Dolmeo are bastards when they labelled the big jars with an allergy warning and not the stir in sauce one, i was near in hospital after that . But this sauce i ate last night seemed find it had midified maize starch but was worried as it said flavoring and didnt say what flavoring like dolmeo 90% wheat one.

I often get pissed off when things says suitable for vegitarian, sometimes thats obvious and being vegitarian is not an like coaliacs. If they accidently eat something with ingrediant of meat they are not going to be ill like me, nothing against them its the manufacturers who arnt thinking. I could rant on about it for ages but there is no point.

leat i know i can stick with this sauce, thanks everyone.

you misunderstand.
we dont know whats in the jar, it might have wheat stuff, we dont know

make proper carbonara instead, as directed in my and hellkats recipes

its quite possible that the imitation carbonara stuff that comes in jars has wheat stuff in it. look on the ingredients

There's a good cheat way to a nice Cabonara.

Make a Velouté (A white sauce made with unreduced stock, instead of milk) then take that and make it into an Allemande Sauce (Essentially a velouté with Lemon juice, Egg yolks and cream)

Fry some bacon/pancetta in a pan and throw it into the Allemande.
You can add some closed cup button mushrooms to it too, cut into quarters.

It's pretty fool proof, and how i taught my ex-girlfriend to make cabonara for her student mates. Somehow she couldn't grasp the normal method (I.E the one posted above)

So this is definitly a 'cowboy' method to a cabonara sauce.
