since it's my day off work tomorrow, i thought i'd tackle the rust problem i have. My exhaust is covered in rust so i went to halfords on my dinner break today at work and bought a wire brush.

just wondering how would i go about gettin as much rust off as possible? would i need anything other than a wire brush to help get the rust off?

Thanks

Ash

Prevention rather than cure is the thing... Invest in some ACF50/Scottoiler F365 to protect after you have removed the rust otherwise it will come straight back.

No, but any bike shop will. Failing that you can get FS365 direct from Scottoilers website:

Just a minute! What is the finish on the exhaust? Chrome, painted, what?

Once a black painted exhaust starts to go, it will need regular wire-brush and paint sessions. Get as much rust of fwith the wire brush as possible, and then paint it. The rust will come through again in a few months time, but that's life I am afraid!

Don't ( as I once did ) try and paint the exhaust with rust-treatment to prevent the rust returning before you paint. The heat just burns it all away and your paint falls off afterwards! Oh...and it STINKS!

What KatOwner said, thats why I asked. 1200farenheit paint will do. Mask off the pretty bits (if there are any), hang the exhaust in the shed or garage, and get spraying.

Personally I would sand + polish it until its bare metal with no rust visible, then repaint it with a suitable rustproof paint.

Lot of work though.

Would that stop the rust coming bk or just slow it down?
