My friends CB400 doesn't seem to have any ignition, now I've checked the battery etc and looked at the connectors/ fuse and they all seem to be in place and ok. Just wondering if anyone had an idea? Its a 1992 CB400 Project big one.

Can't do anything unless you are 100% certain that the battery is putting out enough current, which is impossible to do without the right tools. Best way to check is to use jump leads and a car battery to try to start the bike. Then start poking around.

Yeah I've got one, just ran out of time today, will have a look next time its available. I was just posting to see if anyone had any ideas as I thought it a bit weird that the ignition was totally dead Confused

Hi

Could be a lot of things. Presume you mean that the bike power up and cranks over on the starter motor.

Faulty kill switch. Side stand cutout fault. Crankshaft position sensor. Failed cdi. Failed coils. Broken wire. Etc.

Need to have a poke and check to see what is getting power. If there is a spark on one pair of cylinders and not the other.

No its not that, the ignition doesn't even turn on when you turn the key, ie. the lights don't come on to initiate start up. Thumbs Down

That's often to do with the ignition switch itself - try filling it with WD40 and doing a lot of key jiggling.

How did you test the fuse?

Hi

As above, check the switch first. Check the battery terminals are secure. Check the earth from the bike to the battery is secure. Check for power at the switch.

Also a lot of Hondas use an odd starter relay which also controls power to the rest of the bike. When these fail they can have some odd effects.
