Heyas. My dad said that when he used to ride bikes, the big bikes where very heavy, and hard to keep stable..

Well this was a long time ago, but I was wondering if this would be the same for an 1993 ZXR 400cc?

What are they like as bikes? Are they fast? Do they handle well? Reliable maybe? Are they heavy?

Anyone had one around that year mark?

Heavy? Nah, they are about the same weight as the newest R6. Can't speak for what they are like as i haven't riden one but they are very small.

They are not heavy or hard to keep stable.

They are as fast as the other 400s and handle similarly well.

After getting of my zx9, one would feel slow and handle poorly. After getting off my CRM125, one would feel fast and handle well (on the road).

The ZXR4 is comparatively stable, having a fairly long wheelbase for a 400. Very light too, and physically small, so its easy to manhandle about the place Thumbs Up

It depends what's been done to the rs. The zxr would be the better all round road bike though.

What other cheap sports bikes are there apart from the VFR and ZXR?

A 'modded up' rs125 is rather a stupid thing for an 'only' bike in my opinion.

Basically yes, unless there was a good rider on the RS and no on the ZXR, but then the same for any bike.

I just mean like 0-60 times, im guessing a zxr could do alot higher speed than an rs.

ZXR in full power guise would slaughter the played with RS in straight line performance. On a track a very good rider on the RS could make much of the performance deficit up (I have seen an RS125 holding its own in the fast group on a track day), but truth be known that requires a rider who would make most of us look silly even if they were on a CG125.

All the best

Keith

If you want to see the performance differences, look at the quarter mile times...

Something like a ZXR400 will do it in around 12 odd seconds/110mph

An RS125 is going to run around 15 seconds /80 mph

i used to have one when i was 16 it was brilliant, loved it to bits, its a small bike for a 6'4'' guy like myself but it was loads of fun, i never had any problems with it in the year and a bit i had it before i got a zx6.
handling was very good, and brakes were excellent.
overall a well balanced bike and i would recomend,

May not mean a lot.

For instance, gearing, gear ratios, traction and aerodynamics can all effect it quite a lot.
For instance, from what I remember a RS125 wasn't running much slower than a much more powerful VFR400 at one strip.

Would have thought a 12 was a bit optomistic for a 400?

On the speed comparison thing - I did a few laps of about 55.1 at the Brands Hatch track day we did at the beggining of the year. This put me around midway in the fast group, with me and another SV definitely being the lowest powered bikes around there.

The weekend later, when something went wrong with the carbs, I managed the same lap times, but this time with only 35hp from my SV650. Similar times are done by the lower powered RS125.
So a restricted bike does not /have/ to be slow and if you want to go fast, learning to ride fast is more important than buying a fast bike.

As far as skill goes, there are a hell of a lot of people that are a lot faster than me out there as well.

with regards to the 6'4 guy - how the hell did you fit on it?

I had a sit on a zx4r L and I couldn't fit AT ALL. I felt like I was on a mini-moto

yes. They're different tests.

Also I hope you're getting training for your full license otherwise you're 99% guaranteed to fail (yes made up statistic)

the RS isn't the best bike to learn to pass your test on...
