From Yamaha's US web site:
https://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelhome/6/0/home.aspx

Electronic throttle control and a slipper clutch as standard now.

Slightly smaller front discs than before but the front callipers have gained two more pistons than previous models.

Better mid-range power.

Notice that the offside of the swing arm is slightly different to the nearside.

I like it, except for the tail piece and exhausts compared to my 04. I think the 04-06's under seat exhaust and tail piece looks tidier than the 07's.

Hopefully they will not use Dunlops as OEM tyres in the UK this time.

I need to see one in the metal to properly decide if I like it or not.

Other models have been announced too.

Looks good but I'm sure it's a lot more imposing in real life.

I agree about the tail end, the exhausts seem to fit in too well taking away the sharpness of the tail.

This "Candy Red" pic looks awesome

I may have just broken my own rule about how I "just don't like R1's".

As far as I know, that's a US only colour and the red variant we're getting is like the red and white 06 R6.

Here are the European colours:

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a81/WilliamYZF-R1/black01.jpg

https://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a81/WilliamYZF-R1/blue01.jpg

For the 07 R1 Yamaha claim 180bhp, and 189bhp at speeds over 125mph with ram air.

Yamaha claim the 04-06 models have 182bhp with ram air. I believe the realistic bhp of the 04-06s is 140-150bhp at the rear wheel.

Because the new R1 uses variable valve timing it's not eligible to race in AMA Superbikes, as their rules don't allow VVT. I don't know if they were planning on entering though.

I like the black one too and could be tempted to enquire about a part exchange deal for my Mistral Grey 04.

What's going on with the new front 6-piston calipers? They look like the extra pistons were justs welded onto the end of the current 4-piston ones.

Ditto, all the rest (particularly the hondas) are foul. That looks nice, retaining it's curves and not having a pinched face.

Nice! And for me only because it shows Yamaha have done some R&D into engine emissions and found a way to put a decent underseat exhaust on and still pass Euro 3...and not gone for the cheap option of just sticking an underslung expansion chamber and what they call a 'motogp' style stub outlet.

[rant mode]

WHEN WILL PEOPLE REALISE THAT THE UNDERSLUNG STUB OUTLETS ON BIKES SUCH AS THE R6, GSXR600/750, ER6, HORNET 07 ETC ARE CHEAP, NASTY AND EASY WAYS FOR THE MANUFACTURER'S TO GET AROUND EURO EMISSIONS ACTS. THEY CALL THEM 'MOTOGP' STYLE TO FOOL YOU ALL INTO THINKING IT WAS AN INTENTIONAL DESIGN AND FASHION TREND Shocked IN REALITY IT'S JUST AN EXCUSE FOR A SERIOUS LACK OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPEMENT. IT'S NOT EASY MAKING A BIKE PASS THESE EURO LAWS WITH A STANDARD CAN OR UNDERSEAT SYSTEM SO ON A LOT OF THE BIKES THEY HAVEN'T BOTHERED - AND YOU ALL THINK STUB EXHAUSTS ARE COOL - LOOK UNDER THOSE BIKES AND YOU WILL SEE A LARGE BOX FILLED WITH A HUGE CAT CONVERTOR - JUST HOW CAN THAT CHEAP NASTY BOX BE COOL???? Shocked Sick Evil or Very Mad Mad Thumbs Down

New R1 doesnt have VVT buddy, only major engine changes are the new head (20 valves) and the variable intake manifold (ycci) and the chip controlled throttle(ycct).

I was at a local Yamaha dealer on Friday, and saw some R1's and R6's lined up in the showroom. I'm guessing they were 2006 models tho'.
Having said that, the R1 definately looks better than shown in the pics, and has a sort of "presence" in the flesh Thumbs Up Wink
