Are the bargain basement online will websites any good, or will I be safer shelling out about 5 times the fee and going to a local soliciter? I dont have much in the way of possessions, just a house and its contents plus insurance payouts etc, which I want to leave to my girlfriend and whatever is in my bank account for my parents.

Proper will from a solicitor, lawpack style ones will just leave a nasty expensive mess for other people to have to clear up after you've died.

Been about a year that I've been putting off having a will written, at least its something I'll never regret putting off Mr. Green

Do it right or else it will go thought the courts and all moneys may be
gone on solicitors fighting over where your money goes.If there is one
thing to put right before anyone passes away is get the will right or the
money goes to solicitors for fighting the court case for someome that
thinks they have a right to your money over your kids or anyone else.

£4.95 form from the post office, signed by me, witnessed by someone else - detailing who I leave what to.

As legally binding as any other.

Inheritance law can be a minefield... Whilst who you want to leave what to can seem simple, if you don't take care to cross the t's and dot the i's exactly as is required your stated wishes can end up meaning sod all therefore, I'd say pop to a solicitor. Shouldn't cost too much and it should give you more peace of mind.

(on a side note, I wouldn't say that it's the lawyers getting your money that's the problem if it ends up going to court - it's more the fact that your loved ones may end up having to go through an awful lot of crap to sort out the mess which probably isn't what they'd want to be doing given that they've already seen you pass from this world...)

Borrow someone else's for the jargon, and slot in your own words, make sure you get someone to witness it, and keep a couple of copies here and there. Make sure you choose an executor (?) someone who will read it out, and make sure its actioned accordingly. Try picking someone with a more sedate lifestyle to your own, and tell them you would like them to do it. Tell your family you have made a will too.

You can buy packs from places like WHS too.
