...it was by one of these stupid twatty neighbourhood busy-bodies armed with a speed gun because they are sad arseholes with nothing better to do than waste their time with zapping passing bikers.

A 'Community Speed Watch Volunteer' has apparantly zapped me doing 40 in a 30. I remember this as I gave them a two-fingered wave as I went by Laughing

So I've been given a 'Yellow Card' by the Police Laughing

Obviously I'm not going to be prosecuted for this but I'm a grumpy old git and don't want to take this lying down. I want to get this yellow card removed from the system. Who gives some civvie nob-end the right to say I was speeding! Wankers.

What should I write in my letter to the Police - should it be things like speed gun calibration etc and training of the person using it? Photo evidence etc?

I'm in the mood to cause a fuss Laughing

yeah i would, just anything that could be a factor in the possibilty in you speeding, what you've already mentioned is what i would kick up a stink about, plus don't forget to ask how long they have been trained AND how long they have been using it..Good Luck Thumbs Up

You might want to ask what level of Home Office clearance they have, to be handling information about you and your activities. Even if they only know your reg. plate, how do we know we can trust them and their readings without them holding a HO badge?

I wondered about these folks the first time I read about them... how can they have any power or responsibilty to report you to the police when they have no further right than any other citizen? and a yellow card? wtf is that... Another one and you get a red and a fine or something? The legal issues abound.

Why not wait until next time they are out 'on patrol' and make a point and flying past them at about 70mph, on your back wheel whilst flipping them the bird? If they can read your number plate at that angle/speed then they can fill it in on their little clipboard. Remember that age also equals failing eyesight! That will give you plenty of satisfaction for getting one over on them. I don't really understand what their role is, apart from encouraging drivers to slow down by playing at pretend policemen, but no matter how many times they 'catch you', they can't ever do you for speeding because they have no legal power whatsoever. Fook 'em! Very Happy

I would just count yourself lucky it wasn't a proper speed gun, otherwise you would be £60 lighter and have 3points now.

They usually let you off for that speed (or they do around here as the next village down does it) but sticking the V's up at them isn't big and isn't clever and may have swayed his decision a tad. Rolling Eyes

Just don't get caight again. Wink

It is a proper speed gun, however the people behind them are not police officers, hence just the "warning".

Just make sure that next time you see them you ride round the corner and dial 999 frantically telling them there's a couple of idiots waving a gun around in the street and pointing it a people. That should get a response worthy of the national news and make them think twice about continuing to do it. If you can get legal aid, approach a solicitor about suing them for emotional trauma too.

No point in quoting the regulations about calibration.

You just know it's going to have a certificate..... Wink

Even if it really didn't have one at the time.

Would be interesting to know just how many calibration certificates are signed "Retrospectively".

I wonder about taking their pictures and sending them to local papers, or maybe putting up some 'wanted' posters Razz.

Wonder if the people in question know about all data protection guidelines? Believe there may be a case for getting 'em done if they don't, but really don't know much about that sorta thing.

They only need calibrating once a year...Plus they will be the old style guns(radar) as the ones the Police use to prosicute are all laser now.

Hi

There is nothing that can come of the ticket really. They are not police officers so the "evidence" from their use of the speed gun is meaningless.

Only problem is if enough people go past over the limit the police / scamera partnership will use it as an excuse to go and set up a real speed trap.

Or course, you could go back riding a very quiet bike behind them, and use a very loud horn to alert them to your presence as they appeared to be about to stumble in front of you.

All the best

Keith

They're only a group of Righteously Indignated Members of the Communnity. Laughing
(I'd hit her in the middle holding the gun in that pic.)

Is it not the same as those other Tow-Rags that give out grief for parking?
Do they have HO clearance too?

You could maybe splash them as you go past at 29.99MPH.

I know I'm probably going to get flamed for this but.... you were speeding right? And you didn't actually receive points or a fine?

I'm at a total loss to see what your problem is? could be a bloomin monkey holding the camera, doesn't change the facts! It's like people who slip on a wet floor and sue... People should take more responsibility for their own actions!
