well the pistols he bought suffered a bit of wear after a year of use, but they were really good while they lasted.

Just to clarify:

Air pistol/ air rifle : compressed air powered device using metal pellets as amunition.

Airsoft gun/ bb gun : battery/ spring/ gas powered device using 6mm plastic balls as amunition

12 is too young to have a pistol, If you look on the website link i posted above there is a part about the laws just have a look at it you have to be very careful these days mate there is a lot of idiots out there already had to kick some kids of my shoots before they didn't have permission. They only had a air rifle but without permission and you get caught you get charged for haveing a firearms in a public place and without a licence too i.e any Pistol with the power over 6ft lbs is classed as a firearm and rifles over 12ft lbs is the same. I shoot firearms from 22rimfire to 50 cal (range only for 50 cal) all licensed too. Got no problems with air weapons just as long as people use them properly and safely. Then they get enjoyment out of them too. Why not take him to a shooting range near you to see what he thinks of it ?
