Was this the R1 on show at the NEC? If so, it's even more gorgeous in the 'flesh'!

Its not entriely my cup of tea, dont get me wrong its a stunner but just a tweaked version of the previous model, how cluttered does that rear end look?

With the contrast in panels, colours, materials and finishes it is just too bulky looking, and why oh why have they got the worlds largest front indicators on it Laughing

To be honest it looks like that RSX 50 thing?

Can't say I'm impressed.

TBH I agree, the pic above doesn't do it much justice.
However, here's a pic of me sat on it at the NEC - where I think it looked much better Smile

The rear end is sorted now, I reckon for '08 they should revert back to the 05' front end. It just looks a bit 'too' radical.

Hmmmm nobody has mentioned that it's not a '98 R1 and as such rubbished it. My faith in you lot is failing fast. Very Happy

It does look better in the blue scheme as it doesn't have that bloody great big black panel fairing. I'd still have one though, I am a bit cheap like that.

I just think it looks a little overdone.

Too much flappy panelling, too many contrasting 'bits', too bloody big (not that I'm biased), too plastic.

It feels like the bike has been designed by about eight different people all trying to get their 'bit' to stand out. It's lost the simple stealthy sexiness of the earlier models.

I completely agree.

For me, the R1 has always been a bit pretty/over designed.

urgh

the tail end looks real overdone and those headlights cover the entire front end of the bike! really dont like that bug eyed, reminds me of the 2004 zx6r

speaking of which the new 2007 6r is gorgeous! Razz the rear end is so smooth and compact, and i love the new lights from its bigger brother
https://www.zeenz.nl/images/uploads/Kawa_ZX-6R_07_zk_bewerkt.jpg

the 2006 10r is almost as nice too, i know some people dislike the new lights, but i think the minimalism works really well

At least they've kind of kept the vaguely smooth front styling. The front of the new R6 is a mess of pointy bits. Confused

The exhaust is awful... maybe in ten years time we will look back and see it as being ahead of its time, but right now I'd rather see underseat exhausts Smile

Far be it from me to bring down the high opinion of the general public, but I think the '04-'06 Model is the sexiest looking of them all. Going to the split fairing design wasn't the best decision. The R-6 is much sexier with that design and it should've been left with the R-6. I could go further in depth with technical stuff like the new Fly-By-Wire system and such. But I'll leave it as something that probably just needs to grow on me. Until now, R1's have grown sexier with every model. I think designers are getting a lil too ahead of themselves.
