Sorry if this seems to be a bit of a dull subject but have recently been given a new contract at work and have noticed a large change in regrade with breaks

I currently work a 9 hour day and take two 15 minute breaks and one 1hr lunch breaks, i was told this by my supervisor at the time when i started.

My new contract states the same working hours but with two 15 minute breaks and one 30 minutes lunch break. Therefore i was wondering if there is an legislation regrading hours worked breaks permitted.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Yes there is legislation, don't remember the exact terms but they are giving you slightly above minimum. For a 9hour day the minimum breaks they could give you would be 45minutes.

Is that 45 minutes lunch or 45 minutes in total?

I only get 45 minutes for a 9 hour, thats the minimum I think.

I find that MORE than enough, don't see why you'd need more Wink

I get 15 minutes for 4 hour shifts. 30 for 5 hour shifts and 45 minutes for a shift that's 6 hours or more.

AFAIK working time regulations state that if you are required to work more than 6 hours in one go, you are entitled to 20 minutes break.

General rule of thumb is usually...
4 hours - 15 mins
5 hours - 20 mins
6 hours - 30 mins
7 hours - 30 mins plus 10 mins
8 hours - 30 mins plus 15 mins

However if you have a lunch HOUR you might find it's unpaid... so perhaps you might have:
2x 15 mins break (paid and 1x 1hour (unpaid)

The thing is it also goes by the type of work that you do, drivers for instance are not allowed to be on the road for more than 4 hours at a time (i think)
Look into it... Citizen's advice bureau good source of information! Thumbs Up

I do an 8 hour day with a 15min (piad) break and a 30min (unpaid) lunch break. Suited me when they brought it in as it got me out of there 30 mins earlier each day. Wink

If I am working from 12-9 and get my break really early, say 2 and get back then I still have 6 and a bit hours to work so normally I get a 10 minute fag break at say 7 so it's not too bad.

Only really applicable to lorry drivers on a tachograph and towed commercial combinations exceeding 3.5 tonnes who should be on the tachograph but often aren't.

i work in telesales related, and start at 9, lunch 12-1, up to 15 break at 3-ish, then home time at 5, don't really make full use of lunch hour, and only really take 5 mins break and get 6 pound p/h.

VERY happy with that, and my boss listens to any concerns i have. Smile

I work 9 - 5.30, get 30 min unpaid for lunch then two 10 min breaks, morning and afternoon. TBH I find 30 min for lunch isn't really long enough, if you have to go out for food by the time you get back you only have 10-15min left to sit down and scoff your lunch

I do 6am-6pm and get a 1hr lunch with a 1/2 hr break at 9am and one at 3pm. Although if it is busy and we have a lot of work on or breakdowns then I am lucky to get 40mins for my lunch and I wont take any breaks until we have finnished Sad
The longest shift I worked was 6am-6pm with a 1/2 hr break then had my dinner at 6pm and was back out until 9pm! I was fucking shattered, only to get called out again at 2am for an hour for a power loss Sad

My hours in work changed recently from 8 hour days to 9 hour days (so that we can get off on the 16th for Christmas) and we also work 8 hours on Saturday.

Our breaks have changed...

Start - 10am
First Break - 11.15am (15 mins)
Lunch - 1.30pm (30 mins)
Second Break - 3.50pm (10 mins)
Third Break - 5.50pm (10 mins)
