Why do people bother saying this? It's not like you're perfect on the road and always rigidly stick to the speed limit and if you say you do you're a liar.

I'll ride at whatever speed I feel is safe for the given conditions and I don't think that there should be a fixed penalty for such an 'offence'.

Maybe all vehicles should be fitted with recordable GPS units like a little black box of events.

In the case of an accident the information would be able to determine whether the headlamps were on, indicators, wipers, seat belt, and of course speed etc all assisting in solving what 'actually' happened.

See this ages ago (in some police cars I think) on Tomorrows World or Top Gear.

I said this just the other day wrote:
Speeding is nt condoned either, people just tend to think thats its big and clever.

I speed everyday, if I get caught then I'll put my hands up and take it like a man.

There are no excuses everyone knows the law, its your decsion to whether you stick to it or not.

The law should be changed, the government uses it to extort millions out of its citizens. They focus too much on how speeding kills whenever in reality it's bad driving that causes the accidents. There's no black and white line as to what is a safe to do and what isn't. Are you saying that 78mph is more dangerous and will cause an accident more easily than 70mph?

Whosthedaddy wrote:

I don't want the government tracking exactly where I go, how many miles I do and what speed I will have been doing. I like my privacy.

It might be able to tell who was at fault at accidents but how reliable will it be and how much will it cost to implement? Doubt it will be cheap and guess who will have to pay for it.

Dont get me started on Gatsos and speed cameras Mad

They are a money making machine for the Gov and local coucils.

If they are to prevent speeding in areas that suffer from a high number of accidents then why are they not on blind bends or down country roads where vehicles constantly go off the road or have near misses. I dont see why they are along 30mph roads near me that have NO houses! Who the fook is there to run over?

If they introduce this pay as you drive campaign then it may be introduced whether you like it or not.

I believe that some companies have them in their trucks and vans, keeping an eye on their employees.

It would be a included in the price of new vehicles.

Thats what would happen if the petitions actually did anything. The thing is nobody gives a toss about who signs them as they just get overlooked.

I'll take my chances with the current devices they use thank you. Wink

Keeping a track on mileage I can live with but if they start trying to track exactly where I've when then that's too far.

Nothing wrong with keeping an eye on employees because it's not their van/truck in the first place.

You'll still end up paying for it.

If that was the case wouldn't they be better off doing away with the points system? As it stands they can only get a few hundred quid out of each motorist before they get a ban through totting up. If it was just fines they could squeeze a lot more out of us.

Not saying this is necessarily my point of view... just playing devil's advocate.

Its just a load of boll*cks really isn't it? Its all about loopholes and exploiting poor legislation.

Its got nothing to do with the fact that the speed detection equipment works perfectly well on motorcycles, its all about trying to get away with speeding. Just because the government has made some boo-boo in not getting these devices approved for use on motorcycles doesn't mean that they don't work.

How many people can actually hold their hands up and honestly say that they have been convicted for speeding when they were perfectly innocent, due to speed detection equipment that wasn't approved for bikes? I bet there are hardly any. If you are caught speeding and the evidence isn't 100% certain, then normally the police will not procede with the conviction. So if you challenge it and protest your innocence, they will not procede if they think that their case could be flawed. If they are certain that they are right, they will prosecute you without question.

Don't believe all that you read in MCN or whatever mags tell you about how they tested these devices and recorded staionary objects moving at 20mph or whatever. Most of it is trumped up media hype. Look at the real world and find people who have been convicted wrongly and then judge the real facts.

On my final note, I just want to say that I am not some anti-speeding spokesman or something similar. I break the law just as much as everyone else in terms of speeding. But if I get caught (again) then I will take my punishment like a man. I just think that this petition is pointless and flawed.
