I guess we all take things like this for granted, how everybody is bigging up where they've been on their recent tours and comparing the worlds great city.

My question is this, why travel 1500 miles across europe when i think the best thing is at your doorstep. London completely transforms when it gets dark, and it's inner beauty is revealed.

I recently got back from Loughborough for Christmas and as soon as i dropped my stuff, i made a beeline for central london.

My route started off at Norf Weezey - i.e. North west london.

Here's the best way to take it.

Arrow Enter london from the M1 Junction 4, Edgware exit and take the A5 straight down the old roman road to Marble Arch and head around to the wellington arch, down through buckingham palace road and then sweep around to big ben.

Down the back of st james' park leads you onto parliament square. Head straight for Westminster bridge and hike a left down to the embankment. Stop in front of the government offices (e.g., MOD) with loads of police outside and get a good shot of the big ben and london eye. It's just spectacular in my opinion and nothing hits the spot (cheers Paivi) - Of course i get confused with the bridges. Waterloo bridge leads to my dad's old office by the the strand - strand underpass gives a nice aural blur to london. Very Happy

The face of big ben is just out of shot in this photo, obscured by the tree

I carried along down the embankment, up through blackfriars and ended up at St Pauls

Heading down the same road, you'd end up by the tower of london. I didn't bother going around tower bridge because you need to go around the block, almost to adgate to get the turn off for tower bridge, thank you very much no right turn! Evil or Very Mad

But enjoy these pics of tower of london.

I made a hasty U turn to get to the other side near the ticket offices to get a better shot.

So once they were done. Back through blackfriars and through to temple. Just before you reach somerset house, take a right, and head up temple. You'll reach Aldwich, by which point, head around to drury lane and park up at covent garden. Enjoy the carol singers and get yourselves some roasted nuts. By this point, you'll be bloody cold and you'd definately deserve it.

My route home took me past picadilly circus, up through regents street to see the ice blue christmas lights (beware, your bike WILL overheat due to the traffic even when it's 5 degrees). Carrying through into regent's park, and vectoring right, into camden town. I would have taken a photo of my bike at camden lock, but there was a bum that looked a bit iffy, as if he could nick my bike, so i decided against it. Camden meant a lot to me and there's just something evocative and special about going to camden every sunday in your teens.

If you have a pillion, best treat them to the crepes at Hampstead Heath because it tastes immaculate. What you do from now is up to you. If you want to head back north. Look for signs to golders green, as this will take you to the A406 and the M1. But i just lingered around till i got back home in edgware.

So, it may not be as extravagent as Korn's nice stint around europe, or Claud's, Mike's and Maurice's eurothrash, but it just goes to show that the allure of our own capital is just as exhilirating as any other experience. Crisp winter night, clear skies, hazy lights, nothing more special than London when the humdrum of work is done.

I'm sorry if my pictures aren't of good quality, i couldn't get the camera to get the exposure right. Auto mode wouldn't get the flash bright enough for the distance, and the night mode just prolonged the exposure, good time lapse effects, but hey, can't have em both. The beauty of london at night can only experienced by yourself..

... so what you waiting for,

get ya arses out of the house, don your leathers and amble on london on your sportsbike. A traffic copper smiled at me as he rode past when i was taking a few of the shots at the embankment.

Hope you enjoyed this read. If you want any details, PM me and i'll more than be happy to take you on the tour.

Christmas wishes to all

Titot

EDIT:

In the morning, i got hungry and my aunt and her family wasn't at home, so i went to this place instead.

2 minutes after that shot was taken, i think people were coming back from their christmas rideout with the police

London does have some lovely places, I once took a trip up there on my Pug speedfight with a mate of mine. Had a ride up to the Eye, over old london bridge, and snaked back towards Lewisham. Laughing

Cool thread Tit. Learn how to take photos though. Wink

Yeah, it was really really cold and my hands were shaking. The night exposure does work well if it's on a tripod or if my hand's weren't too bad! God i was like 2-3 degrees at 8-9 last nite. But you get the idea. I know my camera's up to the job. I think masturbation screws about with your right had a bit too much, and so does playing guitar - RSI?
