I have moved the NSR125 FAQ to HERE, where it is regularly updated, and is also now linked to the UK & import de-restriction guide, as well as other guides such as changing carburetor jets etc. More guides are being added all the time.

The NSR125 User manual can still be downloaded HERE

You should say that you have to remove the seat before you can lift the tank up - but apart from that you've got it all covered Very Happy

You can't. It's a 2 stroke and the smoke's from the oil. It'll stop once it's warmed up enough Razz

Glad it helped you mate Smile As for the smoke, have you tried using Putoline TT Sport 2 stroke oil? It claims to give off less smoke and scent than the other 2 stroke oils. It is normal for it to smoke though, all 2 strokes do it.

Also as you are missing the owners' manual, i have just updated the guide above with some more things including a link to download the owners manual.

If the engine is cold / Early in the morn, it will smoke allot more, due to it having to use the choke, and burning up unburnt oil thats floating round.

Make sure not to over rev while its cold. The most engine wear is undertaken while the engine is cold.

If the bike still smokes after the bike has warmed up / ridden for about 5-10 mins, you can adjust the oil pump cable. (much easier to do on the unfaired models Very Happy)
I found i had mine set for max, and it would use about 500mil of oil in about 300km, which is far to much,
And the huge clouds of smoke kind of gave it away i had the setting wrong...

You shouldn't really have any smoke coming out the exhaust once the bike is warm.
Although its not really a problem, its better to have to much oil going through, than not enough and causing a seize.

LOL! its easy to remove, and looks better without it. i think its just 2 bolts, 1 either side at the top of the mudflap. This was the first thing i did when i got my NSR home!

Quote:
Brakes:
Most importantly, motorcycles are not like mountain bikes – you do not use mostly the back brake. You should aim for (roughly) 70% front and 30% rear. Oh and do not brake hard while cornering, or you will be sitting on your arse sliding towards the outside of the corner! To change the front and rear pads, follow the guides at nsr125.com (click here)

Generally most people end up using 100% front and only the rear very occasioanly.
Braking with teh frotn while cornering should in most circumstance be avoided.
It will make the bike sit up and possibly the front wheel lose traction if well leant over.

If it's a case that there's a hazard of some sort that can't be avoided and you're not well leant over, it shouldn't be a prob.

However as a soloution to going into a corner too fast it's one of the worst things you can do. It will most probably either make you run wide or make the front slide. 9 times out of 10 the bike can make the corner, even if you think it can't.
Slight pressure on the rear brake will slow you down in the corner, but you need to be very sure you're not going to lock it.

Due to the relative contact sizes of the the frotn and rear tyres you should ideally be accelerating slightly around corners, to weight the rear tyre with 60% of the bieks weight, so the smaller front only has 40%.

Either way it's good that all the NSR'ers are getting the support which they obviously appreciate Smile.
