I have my Theory in a week, getting hold of the place I done my CBT to get the DAS going within the next few weeks.
Im looking for you opinions on a good bike to start with.
Some guy told me not to go for Super Sport (I liked the R1) to begin with, maybe a Bandit.
I prefer Super Sport more.
I wouldnt like a 250, Im looking towards 400-600 maybe?
No idea, but I want to see what you lot think.
So, I can start saving Asap and get my eye on a bike!

i went out and bought myself an xb9sx and then went and done the test 3 months after.

just buy the bike you like and grow into it and remember the twisty bit on the right makes it go faster and slower you just need to know when to do it...

As above, its all about self controll. If you want a R1 get one but don't let the red mist drop as you will be down the road. You could do the same with a 600 if you pin the throttle, so why settle for a small engine like a 600 when you could join the 1000cc+ club. Wink

I'd suggest going to a few dealerships and try sitting on a few different bikes. The size, geometry and comfort of each bike will be slightly different, so it's worthwhile getting some sort of idea which one is likely to be suited to your body size/shape...

Personally I plan to go for a CBR600F once I've got the money together... Currently riding a Kawa GPZ500S as my 1st bike, and loving every second of it Thumbs Up Wink

As for getting an R1 with limited experience?? .... I guess it's possible, but I'll be keeping my eye on the orbituaries

as a first bike i wouldn't even consider a race rep bike,
i personally think from the bikes listed i would go for the bandit.
(although i ride a gs500 and have been riding on the road for 12 years, i find it slow but it does its job and i never ever have problems with it)
it depends on weather you want to look cool, or think that having a flash fast bike makes you a better person or is an extension of your penis..
get something sensible untill you have aquired the skills to ride like a maniac Mr. Green Thumbs Up
good luck and safe riding Thumbs Up

In all honesty you go for a super sports if thats what you want , if you go for anything else you will only regret doing so , i past my test in August and went out a bought a GSXR750K2 as ive wanted one since being the knee height of a grass hopper .

All sorry some of the comments on here mademe questionmy choice of bike , such as you will fookin kill yourself , yuo are going to die , that bike is too powerful for your first bike , you should get something smaller first .

Believe me i am so glad i didnt listen and i have the bike ive dreamt of so long sat in the garage and i smile everytime i take her out or go into see her , i dont lookat otherbikes and think god i wish i had one of those or wished i gone and bought one , because i have the one i want and the satisfaction is so great its hard to describe .

Yes they are dam quick and so powerful but it will only go as fast as you want it to do , the gsxr is an exceptional all round bike and so well balanced and user friendly .

You go and get your sports bike and put that smile on your face , you will love it and be so content , and just remember what ever anyone else says the bike will go as fast or slow as you want and you cant go wrong .

ENJOY ENJOY ENJOY Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink Wink

Yes, get what you want, but sometimes dreams are better off staying as dreams. I`d love a thou, but whats the point?

Dorking around on a sniff of throttle, tyres that cost a fortune and wear out quick too. It really does put me off.

The best advice so far is to try them out first. A cbr 6f is a good bike but IMO, you`ll enjoy a naked far more.

A 400 is plenty fast enough for the road, or track.

I agree with the others, once you have done you test, thats when you start learning to ride. Buy a supersport first and theres a chance youll be fine but theres a good chance of hurting yourslef or writing of the bike etc and i know i wouldnt want to damage a supersport, exspecially a new one.

Get yourself a middle weight/sports tourer to start with even if you only keep it a year and it costs you next to nothing. Do plently of miles and you gain experiance, some no claims and then consider going for a supersports 600.

After you pass your test even a Bandit is going to feel fast as f...... If you want to go down the chin on tank route you could do worse than an SV650, especially if your a girl as its lighter and smaller than a Bandit, but best get round some dealers and sit on a few bikes.

Personally if I were you, get yourself saving up then once you've passed your test get yourself along to a big bike shop and have a sit on a few bikes, till you find one that you like the look off and is comfortable.

Once you've found a couple of bikes get yourself a copy of MCN, biketrader etc... and find one for sale privately.

I'll let you have a sit on the R6 next time I bring it down your way.

Good luck on the theory test Thumbs Up

Where did my post go?? I'm sure I did this already!

Isn't the Aprilia 250 faster than some 600's ie the CBR 600 ?

Good luck with your test.

Subjective, depends who's riding it. Power wise no, not against a comparative supersport 600.

I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to beat those quotes. For example on my R6 I'm paying £290 odd TPFT with 0 ncb.

Not too bad then! Wink

Have you tried www.insurance2000.co.uk out of interest? They've been doing some good quotes lately. I'm paying £556 FC with a two claims, one for a £6000 write off and one for a £7000 theft, only got three years NCB until the court case too.

I only did a rought check. 0 NCB, 6 months CBT with less then one month Full licence.
Just seeing whats the best really. Dont want to fork out chunks of money for insurance. around 500 seems ok to me.
But, what is the difference between the R1 & R6?
Just a short explination would be cool Thumbs Up
