Although i have quit and had plenty of jobs i've never actually done it officially etc and was just wondering if anybody had a copy of one they have used thats not offensive or a pisstake.

The reason i ask is because i have got another job and will be giving my months notice but i want to leave on good terms just incase new job doesnt work out and i leave the door open.

Thanks

Res

Can't remember my exact words but something along the lines of

Dear ***

It is with regret that I must inform you of my resignation from 'Company'.

I would like to thank you personally for all of the opportunities and experiences that you have provided me with.

Please take this letter as the start of my months notice period, resulting in my finishing date being*****

Regards

Resurrection

It doesn't have to be long or give any real details. I'd leave anything like that, that you want them to know, until they speak to you face to face. Much easier that way.

Don't just hand over the letter stone cold. Tell your immediate superior in the company you're going to be moving on and why THEN give them the letter.

A letter can be very impersonal and might cause offence if simply dropped on someones desk out of the blue. Think of you telling the guy you're leaving as your actuall resignation and the letter as simply being written confirmation of it.

Hmm. Once, when I resigned from a job which had failed utterly to provide me with anything decent in terms of opportunities or experience, I left a letter with the exact wording as tribal_tigers on the managers desk when he was away making a cup of tea.

As Stinkwheel says, tell everyone who needs to know first and only then hand over a letter containing nothing but the facts (i.e. you are offski and last working day). You never know what may be misinterpreted as a dig even after you are long gone - I've seen this happen from both sides Smile.

As a prison officer so Mr.James will be my boss Laughing

I've already told my supervisor and want it all to be very amicable.

I've walked out of jobs in the past and had it come back to bite me on the ass before so lesson well and truly learnt
