I have a millie it seems to have a battrey charging problem ?
unless i have a full charge in bat, my engine will not start.
i was told I could swap a few wires somewhere to add a little more charge to the battery,
if I dont get it started within the first few tries i may aswell forget it, and walk to work.
And as for push start it, I have pushed the dam thing untill i threw up,

I would think you need a new battery but don't go changing the wires
around it will only make more problems.

Paddy.

My battery in the ZXR was flat so many times it was just a joke.

Once 'charged' does it hold its charge for any length of time?

Even with a new battery, I still had problems, this being due to knackered altenator Rolling Eyes

A short somewhere may also cause a battery to discharge (so I'm led to believe).

The obvious thing would be to get a volt / multimeter and get some figures to work with.

I was looking at buying a mille a few years back and did a bit of research, cant remember now what the problem was but it was electrical and one of the symptoms was the speedo kept reverting back to kph from mph.

Get yourself a multi meter and check the voltage going into the battery it should be around 14 volts any less than that could mean alternator failed/failing.

Whats the electrolyte levels on the battery like have you checked to see if the levels are low?

No it stops then starts turning over again as if i have taken my thumb off the button but tat is not the case ,

i tested the sw but it seems to work great.

I am sure it is the battery, it has to be

as soon as i put my car on it it starts up every time.

thanks all

That problem is a pain in the arse. My bike kept changing to KPH and resetting everything bar the mileage.

I just got a better battery with more cold crank amps, and have had no bother since.

Out of interest, how old is the battery? mine was about 3 years old before it started doing crazy things.

Could just be that it's needs a new one.

if its not slowing down dramatically then unlikely its the battery. sounds like theres a bad connection somewhere. clean up all the connections start button, kill switch, live & earth to the battery, connections to the starter solenoid and starter motor, but i'd have a look at the contacts on the start button 1st. clean them with some sand paper then smear a bit of vaseline on them to keep them clean

get a volt meter. and check the charge rate by conecting it to the battory and running the bike. make sure you get 13.5 or above..

if you dont you eath have a altinator or regulator problem.

now find the regulator, and connect the volt metor to the inside of the conection and see if you get a big voltage reading. if you do then the altinator is fine but the reguator is fooked. a regulator is cheaper so it worst doing the test.

kris

ps sorry for bad spelling.

I have spent all day cleaning ang testing all machanical joints from the push start button to the starter.

I think my batt is goosed, it was new, so iam taking it back

at least i have spent some time bonding with my bike ,
usally i just kick the tyres, then leap on and abuse it.

I gave her a nice wash down with some warm soapy water. I love my Bike

hi ya when checking a battery its not just enough to know the volts you need to know the amp rate to as this is more important than the volts, if the power out put from the battery is not enough in amps then cranking can prove a problem, ie heavy duty batterys and normal batterys, it might be that you do have a problem devoloping but in the mean time i would surgest a heavy dutie battery, due to the fact it starts on a jump off your car battery every time. As in it going flat I have to agree with earlier posting that your charging circiut seems to be going down but the values you give earlier suggest its fine so battery first, hope this helps all my best wishes sam
