Right, so I'm sure nobody's even remotely interested, but I am compelled:
I attended my second trackday at Buttonwillow Raceway on Saturday. During my first visit in October, I personally witnessed at least half a dozen individual crashes within my class of no more than 30 riders.
This experience was going to be a bit different.
Despite being roughly two degrees celsius that morning, my class bore witness to not one on-track crash during the whole day. Not a one. Here's why:
After three hours in a cramped, gear-stuffed pickup truck, we arrive half an hour prior to the rider's meeting. My two companions and myself promptly unload our bikes and make our way over to get signed in and have our bikes inspected at the tech checkpoint. While waiting patiently in the queue, a sharp-looking rider on a spotless CBR1000RR with matching leathers has just received his bike's tech certification and is slowly motoring his way back to the pits, helmetless. From behind him, someone shouts what is apparently the gentlemen's name and he decides to make a wide, arcing u-turn to go have a chat with the source of the call. Instead, he makes it about three quarters of the way through the maneuver before giving the bike what turned out to be a bit too much throttle. This, of course, causes the rear of the bike to step out about three feet. Realizing what he's done, the fellow immediately closes the throttle. The bike snaps back in line, spitting the rider off, landing directly on his exposed forehead with the bike on top of him. All this at about four miles per hour.
A five-foot-wide pool of blood and twenty minutes later the evac. chopper takes the still unconscious man to the nearest emergency room.
Apparently this is what it takes for us to use a little caution doing that which we do so often without a safe thought in our heads.
The end. ____________________ https://www.bikepics.com/members/californiarookie/04gsxr600/
