If you can't be bothered to read this, skip to the *

Well, phoned Telewest/Blueyonder (or "Virgin media" as it apparently is now) yesterday. Rapidly constricting cashflow has meant I have been looking around to see what deals were available, was paying near £80 a month for TV, broadband and phone all told. That was the 10meg connection and also the biggest TV package, including sky sports/movies though in fairness.

Well, found a sky deal, £99 up front then £63.50 a month for Sky+, another sky box in the bedroom and their ADSL "Max" package, that included all channels as well as a phoneline with free evening/weekend calls. Nice deal, but I was a little sceptical of switching from cable to ADSL, but a saving is a saving.

Phoned Blueyonder yesterday, and after a couple of calls of messing about and confusion (they changed the lineups and offers yesterday when it became "Virgin media") I finally spoke to a lovely young lass, who hung around after the lines had closed and went through the new package listings for me, then said "I've got a meeting tomorrow morning about this, can I ring you tomorrow when I understand them a bit better myself?". Didn't think she'd ring me back to be honest, but agreed and at 1500hrs today, as promised the phone went. Not only was she incredibly helpful, she's also arranged a hefty discount. Free install, I keep the 10meg broadband and get free UK landline calls any time, with a 70% reduction on mobile and international calls, they're also installing a "TVdrive" (sky+ in effect) and moving my old cable box upstairs and giving us sky sports/movies into the bargain, all for £60 a month. It's not just the cost though, it's how incredibly helpful the service was, taking time out to sort the problem and then researching it and coming back with the best offer they could. Makes all the difference if you actually feel like a company values your custom.

* Not often I see people commenting on getting a fantastic service, it's usually whinges, so here's my effort to break the mould. Blueyonder customer services (NOT technical support, they're a different kettle of fish Confused), they're bloody great Thumbs Up

BAGLUX / BAGSTER in Wales Thumbs Up
When i ordered the new bike i also ordered a new tank cover / bag harness but they sent the wrong colour. I told them it was for 2006 colour scheme and they saidd they weren't aware of a change. They contacted Suzuki on my behalf to obtain the colours etc, Suzuki sent them 3 tanks to make the new covers ( they are made in France), so , 2 weeks later i had the 1st 2006 Busa tank cover ever made, airfreighted from France and delivered by DHL to my door. It arrived 3 days before the bike, well pleased with BAGLUX / BAGSTER.

Also well chuffed with TST tyres in Risley, Cheshire... They gave me many options when it came to replacements and he hid the prices allowing me to choose the CORRECT tyre, not the cheapest.

Thumbs Up to Vans direct. £7490 + vat for a 56 reg Fiat Doblo 1.9 TD SX.

Dont sound like a fantastic price, but its well over two grand cheaper than the local main dealer were quoting and about £500 cheaper than the nearest local quote. They will also take our old berlingo and combo both in as part ex. They deliver for free and cart off the old ones too!Result Very Happy

Edit to say: Once you get a price, forget speaking to anyone at all - absolute bag of arse in all other respects. Shite part Ex too Mad

[anorak fact] Bagsters used to be based next door to my work on a small industrial estate in north wales and were a top bunch of people then! Nice to hear they havent changed Smile

interesting to hear about virgin media, as i just received a glossy mini brochure from them recently.

The girl wasnt being overly helpful out of niceness, she was doing it for the commission.

I too have stayed over to finish off a sale that gets me commission same for calling potential sales back.

maybe i will look into this virgin media thing

Neither of the two other sales bods I spoke to that day were particularly helpful, commission or not she went above and beyond the service I have previously recieved from other companies (some of whom I know are "target oriented"). Either way, my point still stands. Very good service.

I'll second that. I've been using baglux stuff for years and have always found them to be really helpfull. I rode to their shop in Rhyl to pick up a cbr tank cover because it was a nice day and they made me a brew and let me try out loads of different coloured bags to see which colours suited the bike best.
The woman in the shop asked me whereabouts in Oldham I lived, which surprised me a bit so I asked how she knew where I was from. She said she recognised my accent. Turns out she was from Oldham originally and lived about a mile up the road from me.

Can I suggest that you take the name of the person that helps you and take 5 mins to write to their boss asking for a copy to be placed on her file. As an employer I can vouch for what a difference this makes. I try to do this as often as possible, in business and personally. Made a girl at Business link cry not so long back. Rang her up to say thanks for organising some training, it had helped the business and the staff had enjoyed it. She burst into to tears and said how nice it was for someone to bother to call as in her job no one ever said thank you! Go on, make someone's day today Very Happy

Well I went to D&A Opticians today and Im planning on going on the website and leaving a glowing review in the feedback section!

I have been with Specsavers since I was 15 [so thats 9 years almost!] and never had any real problems but never really thought they were great either. Just cheap for contact lenses. Had a lot of problems with my eyes for a few months now and decided to ditch Spacksavers and try D&A - Damn glad I did! Their contact lens fitting and health check was really thorough. Apparently I have Astigmatism [explains a lot], Spacksavers must have thought ''Meh, its not so important, why bother mentioning it'' tossers. I've been wobbling round like a drunk with oval eyes and the wrong prescirption for months!

D&A are more expensive but well worth it if your not far from having a white stick, like me. Thumbs Up

Another vote for Ebuyer from me. I've bought most of the components for my current (and previous) system from them, and never had any problems.

As for sales and service in the real world, my regular garage JT's in Bridgend has always provided excellent customer service, friendly staff, and professional helpful advice Thumbs Up Very Happy

It's nice when someone does that. I've always had people saying they'll write in as I've been so helpful but no one ever does.

I work in Virgin Media as it's now going to be called, by the way.

Carole Nash. I had to get an original of my bike insurance sent overnight, for arrival the next day, otherwise I wouldn't get my new bike delivered (140 miles) and I'm not that confident yet. I phoned at 12 noon Wednesday, and the girl said she'd personally see it sent first class, in her lunchbreak. She did, and was VERY helpful and friendly, and it arrived bang on time. I've written in to thank her. Thumbs Up

Worst service recently goes to Kawasaki dealers in Renfrew, who said they'd phone us back with a price of the bike I wanted, and never did. I wrote to them too, and the guy phoned to apologise but I'd already gone to Perth and bought my new bike there. Thumbs Down

Shame the billing system is so confusing and the customers are idiots.

Although most of them get shafted.
