 Posted: 19:27 - 14 Feb 2007 Post subject: Negative Ebay Feedback? |
 |
|
Right, i bought some MZ forks on ebay, but i'm really not happy with them. They were described as near mint, which they blatantly arent, and despite being charged £15 postage, they were wrapped in a couple of bin bags.
But the guy has 100% positive feedback, so i thought i'd give him a chance to refund me some of the cash, or at least attempt to explain, before i give him a negative rating, so i've sent him the email below.
Does this seem reasonable?
| Quote: | Hi, I have a problem with this item.
1. They were badly packaged, parts of the forks were exposed when it got to me, and black bags provide no protection from damage to parts as heavy as these. Frankly I expected much better for £15 postage.
2. The auction stated that these were "vgc, near mint", which they certainly arent. Although the chrome is pretty good on the legs, the fork lowers have clearly had a hard life, and are neither "near mint" nor in "vgc". They are, in fact, battered, scratched and dirty.
3. While I knew that the fork lowers were not in perfect condition from the photo, and had expected a small amount of wear and tear, i hadnt expected that both fork seals would be leaking. Nor had i expected that one of the forks wouldnt return AT ALL when compressed. They will need a full strip down, at minimum.
I thought i would give you a chance to respond before i leave negative feedback. Thanks. |

Right, well it went like this :-
| Quote: | Him - HI REALLY SORRY THAT YOU ARE NOT HAPPY ! WILL DO MY BEST TO PUT IT RIGHT ! THE CHROME WAS THE BEST I HAVE SEEN AND THE PAINT WAS PRETTY GOOD TOO MUST HAVE BEEN DAMAGED IN POST ETC WHAT CAN I DO TO MAKE YOU HAPPY ! POINT TAKEN ABOUT PACKING TO NEGATIVE FEEDBACK I DONT WANT !! WAITING YOUR REPLY. IM QUITE HAPPY TO TALK ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH FORKS (HIS PHONE NUMBER) KEV
Me - Hi,
I'd prefer to discuss this by email if thats ok, so that i have a record of what is said. I havent had to leave negative feedback for anyone yet, and you have 100% positive feedback, leading me to believe that this is not your normal level of service.
To get right to the point, I would like either a partial refund to reflect the true condition of the forks, and the state of the packaging, or to return the forks, for which i would expect a full refund. (nice one stinkwheel!)
You can email me directly at [email protected] if thats easier.
Thanks.
Him - THANKS FOR QUICK RESPONSE !!! I FEEL THE FORKS WAS A BARGIN FOR 9.99 BUT £ 5 EACH I AM HAPPY TO RETURN £10 AS A GENUINE TRADER IF YOU FIND THIS OK HOW WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO PAY BEST INTENTIONS KEV |
Everything else was just sorting it out. A tenner off seemed reasonable (especially as really I only wanted the tubes, which ARE in good condition )
Job done.

| SpannerMonkey wrote: | They don't look too bad from the pic, about what i'd expect from a pair of forks that have only cost a tenner. The seller described them as near mint so he has to stand by that description. But c'mon, for that price are you really surprised that they are a bit rough?
Sounds like you had a genuine grievance though with the postage. For £15 i'd expect a lot more than a couple of bin bags. |
No, i wasnt surprised that they were a bit rough, but i didnt expect them to be completely bolloxed when they were described as "near mint". And the packaging truly was appalling, i was expecting a cardboard box at the very least. Oh well, turned out ok in the end.

I gave him positive feedback. Description was "Quick delivery. Item damaged but a swift refund and excellent service. A+"
I think that was fair.
| MarJay wrote: | To some extent you have to realise that on ebay you always get what you pay for and the descriptions are often exaggerated. If I bought a pair of forks, I'd rebuild them first anyway, I wouldn't risk them on my bike because of the crap that could be inside them. |
So would I . I dont mind a bit of a flourish in the description, he was hardly going to say they were shagged, but i expect it to be factually correct. If he'd said, "could probably do with a rebuild", i wouldnt have complained.

P.S. No-one is paying £50 for used MZ forks! I bought a brand new sports exhaust for £35... ____________________ Current - '94 VFR750FR (Dead), '00 VFR800FI, '11 600 Hornet - Previous - '11 CBF125, '10 Street Triple R, '92 MZ ETZ301, '05 TTR250, NSR125R, KMX125, "Honda" Win
