Anyone got any links to free (Windows) WEP key crackers. I've found a few but they involve fcukin about with commandline apps and some only work under linux. I'm looking for a WEP key cracker that can make a good attempt at cracking a wireless home network. I want it so when I'm at the g/F's I can check my mail for free etc... everyone seems to be securin' their networks damn it Karma

Airsnort was the easiest to use, but even that can take a while to get the hang of and then crack your test network that you're trying it on.

https://pendrivelinux.com/ and download the knoppix linux OS linked from the page. It has the tools ready. Although some have adapted cracking tools for XP, 99.99% run only in linux.

Backtrack ( https://www.remote-exploit.org/backtrack.html ) runs from a CD and is a full security suite.

Do people still use WEP? Shocked

Yes please do not give out methods for cracking wireless. I'd rather mine was secure.

Or if your router can use it, WPA2. Thumbs Up

I've logged onto neighbours networks before, cause it's their problem if they don't want to secure their networks, but wouldn't hack a secured one.

can still be cracked with only a few thousand packets being sniffed...

WPA and WPA2 are still more secure...

Not specifically aimed at you Jon, despite the quote. It's not usually a case of "wouldn't", 99 percent of people couldn't. It's as simple as that. Even something so mainstream as WPA will stop most attempts dead, lets face the fact that most wannabe wardrivers are simply running around with a WIFI scan going and not much else. The really intelligent ones might possibly have managed to get a *nix distro running and even be able to make one of the monitoring and penetration suites work with enough hand holding and a friendly enough support forum, and then (gasp!) be able to bypass WEP with a decent packet sample.

Not only is my wireless using WPA2, but I've also set up a MAC address based access list to the network (not just wireless) using iptables on my linux server. So, even if you crack the wireless you'll get nowhere.

There's only one type of person who is more annoying than a hacker ... and that's someone who wants to be a hacker but has no clue and pesters other people about how to do it.

Fucktard.

With Broadband being so cheap nowadays, is it really worth it? not really.

My mate moved into his new flat and the previous occupants were blacklisted etc etc, which was causing him delays in getting broadband. I was going to buy a powerful receiver as he requested and we were going to set him on broadband which we would pick up over a large range.

But then convinced him to go with cable broadband, as it wasnt really worth it. He agreed and didnt bother with Broadband through a phone line.

Thumbs Up

There isn't a windows program with a nice friendly button with text in comic sans ms that says "CRACK DA N3TWURK", no.

You need linux, a few little apps and a good knowledge of how the whole wireless and wep keys thing works.
