Hey,

I had a bust up on my bike last week and the bit where the hose for the front brake goes into the (caliper? - black box on actual front disc) the bolt came loose and all the fluid pi$$ed out. I tightened it and it stopped. But it rendered my front brake useless. You pull the brake and nothing happens.

I am trying to refill it and bleed it, but i cant understand the bit in the tutorial.

Basically, i took the cap off the reservior (bit on handle bar with sight glass) and filled it, it took minimal fluid, it never drained down into the hose like i expected it too!..Now i am completely lost and my reservoir bit is showing full, but it's just sitting in there..

What do i do??..heeeelp pleeze..

Cheers,

Zepf

Ok when the fluid came out, it let air in. This is a Bad Thing. Hydraulic systems (like your front brake) depend on a lack of air because air is very compressible. When you tightened the nut, you stopped the leak but you trapped the air in, which is why the brake doesnt work anymore. When you pull the lever, you're just squashing the air instead of pushing the fluid (which won't squash) down the line to the caliper. Bleeding the line is the process of replacing air in the line with brake fluid, and I'm sure if you did something as simple as typing 'bleeding brake lines' or similar into something like google, you'd find out much more than I could post here for you. Smile I think you'll find the fluid you've filled up with is just sitting on top of a big air bubble in the brake line.
