About to go and look at a bike this evening and hoping to take a friend along who knows his stuff. But... on the off chance he can't make it what sort of things should I be looking for? i.e the telltale signs of it bein slid down the road etc.

Any help on this would be appreciated. Cheers.

Bent leavers,
Handle bar grips having the ends missing,
Scraped exhaust cans,
Scratches on faring that look like long thin ones,
Bent handle bars,
Bent foot rests,
If they have rubber, foot rest rubbers being damaged.

^All of the above could mean it has been slid.^

But a few of them could of just happened if it was dropped In your garage, fallen of center stand ect.

Unusual gaps between fairing panels may indicate that the bracketry that holds them on has been bent up previously.

Make sure the engine is COLD when you get there to see if it has any starting issues. Could help letting you know if the battery is duff BUT they could have had it on charge all day and took it off before you turned up.

Just to add to that , before starting it up if you can see the battery ( usaly under the seat and is easy to get to you just use the key) check thats cold to, if its warm then it will have been on charge before you got there and would probably mean its a gonna.
also yes make shure its started from cold .
cheers

lock stops on the headstock should be intact , not snapped or bendy,

general scratches,

for miles , look at general condition

older well used bikes have fork leg markings thatwon't polish out.

mismatched bolts, ie some are more corroded than others esp on fairings, = replacement pattern part?

bar ends , bars , cans etc are unreliable as they can be way easily replaced.

Yeah the 98-02 models slip in and out of 2nd gear at high revs. I think someone said you can pop it into second, clutch in , and rev it quite high, and listen for it.
