 |
|
I know there are probably a million posts about this topic... but have another one!
I have a HJC CS-12 lid, with a standard (legal) clear visor. The only problem is I start work at 8am and one of the stretches of road I have to ride faces directly at the sun, meaning I also get it going home at 5pm.
I definately need a 'sunstrip' on my visor (either car sunstrip stuff or duct-tape!), but the road had just been re-surfaced (asphalt not tar-mac), so its a bit shiney, needless to say I get the glare off of it if its wet as well...
So I was thinking, again, of a tinted visor, but how tinted is tinted? I need something tinted enough to do the job, but not so likely to get me pulled over by the old bill! I only really use my bike in daylight anyway.
I was looking at the Race Visors site, and they do two tint types:
https://www.racevisors.co.uk/index.cfm/view_id/4/details/true/code/V-HJC-H05
Anyone got any thoughts/advice on the matter?
Also is there anywhere anyone knows of that do the visors cheaper?
BTW... before anyone attempts to slap me with a tuna fish and tell me to get a pair of cheapo sunglasses from a market stall... I need milk-bottle bottems bolted to my face to be able to see the road... and the bike for that matter, and yes, I have been to specsavers, and yes, it will cost about £150 for a pair of bulk standard anti-sun-in-eyes specs... |

If it were me I'd get the dark tint, then just carry a legal visor with me in case I got pulled. I won't go out at the moment with my black visor on as the sunlight is too bright & low in the morning (plus they can't see me cry when I lose out to the milk float off the lights). |

I would just go with a dark tint, i had one for my last lid, used it all the time and carried a clear one in case it started to get dark or i got pulled.
Never did get pulled though, maybe coppers are just quite lenient about it as so many bikers ride with black visors these days! ____________________ 2003 Honda CBR 600 F Sport

Mate, if u want a dark visor, i've got one for the HJC AC10 which fits the CS12. I don't use the lid anymore. I'd say 12 quid and it's yours? ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

I have the same lid, its a shitty winter time lid though, not my best
But yeah, i have the blue iridium visor. Its got Daytime Use Only printed on it, so its perfectly legal during daytime hours, and its tinted enough to cut the glare, but still keep things quite obviously bright.
It works for me. And i have a blue lid, so it matches... my red bike ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

Just go for the full tint. Wear mine just about every day now and never been given a second look, even in hooligan mode There are some days i ponder when looking into what would usually be blinding sunshine is "why are these illegal?! it should be illegal NOT to have one in this light". Cars have sunvisors, we dont. ____________________ Will work for petrol

Seriously, PM me if you want the visor. Yeh, it's 12 quid including postage. I don't use the lid anymore and no, it has not been on my penis . It's dark tint, bought new off racevisors.com and fits the AC10 which has the squarer shape visor. I always carry my clear in case it gets dark.
Tinted is much better than irridium any time, because there's minmal colour phasing - iridium visors some reson makes the colours go a bit yellower so the colour definition changes. And if you scratch an irridium, it will suck as you can see it. My black visor is spotless mate and i don't use it. ____________________ The Tot 2019 Z1000SX - 2007 R1

Could try these https://www.opticsplanet.net/wileyx-rx-sunglasses.html
I ordered some a couple of years back for biking/snowboarding etc, top notch + ballistics rated, I've had a stone chip hit me in them at 70mph (it was really hot i had my visor up *lemon*) all it did was slightly scratch the surface tinting. Didn't damage the actual lense at all.
Not sure how strong you can get them but im fairly short sighted - without can only see clearly about 6feet. ____________________ Chrome don't get you home but it sure makes you look good pushing it there.

If Ted is wearing jam jar bottoms than its unlikly that the Wiley X Rx Prescription Lenses WileyX SG-1 Sunglasses will be of much use due to the range they are avaiable in.
Ted if you can get a pair of spec's cheap, or have a old pair spare then try the yellow pages for optical lens manufacture's and give then a ring you may find one that will tint them cheap.... You will be supprised how quick and cheap it can be done for...
Only takes a few mins and should not be more than £10.
Most folks wear plastic lenses now and they are not a issue, its the frames that will do more damage to your face in the event of a smash.. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

Cheers for input guys (and gals of course!), don't think I can get those glasses as 'iooi' pointed out... I am too blind methinks! I never thought about tinted me specs... or getting new tinted lenses etc, but the problem is my glasses have too much space around them... as in if I look at the sun it will dull it down, but full light can get in at the top, bottem and both sides... so I'ld need new frames anyway.
Thanks for the offer of the blue iridium ones -but I have a black lid and a black & chrome bike, so I think I would prefer a black visor...
And 'Titz' ...I'm about to pm you... but if the visor had suspicious stains on it I will not be happy! |
