its all interesting but gives the impression of prison is fairly easy,

and quite different from how we see it in the movies , ie regular gang rapes in showers, beatings , rival factions , being confined in your bare cell 24/7 corrupt wardens etc.

though some say we should make it like the movies , 24/7 in a 1x1 box, I remember reading from Papillion.

Interesting reading, but I do wonder just how edited and selected they are. It's very empathetic towards prisoners.

As well as being an interesting read, it actually presented more of the officers' side than I would have expected.

I've carried out most of the functions that staff refer to in the 3 articles, and the only thing that was not mentioned as much as I might expect is how hostile an environment prisons can be for the staff. There is a statistic floating around the ether that suggests that the average life expectancy of a career screw, after retirement, is 15 months.

Not an easy job, but you'll seldom hear anyone arguing on their behalf.
