Government leaflet backs bikers
The Government's Traffic Advisory Leaflet for 2007 not only holds motorcycles as a safe and sustainable transport framework, the attitudes towards motorcycles using bus lanes have also been revised. While the decision lies with local authorities, the shift in Central Governments advice could create an opening for bikes to finally use bus lanes legally.

They are saying in the latest MCN newspaper that bus lanes all over the country could be legally open to bikers within months instead of years!! Woohoo!! :D

Three times a lady....

Our bus lanes have allowed bikes since the day hey were put down, now they are time restricted bus lanes and everyone can use them during permitted hours. It's a pity most people can't understand basic road signs and use them when they are allowed. From what I've seen 75% of people need to be tested on the highway code regularly.

Here's a link to the leaflet.

I really don't see the problem with letting motorbikes use bus lanes. I don't have any on my commute into Glasgow so it wouldn't make any difference to me, but on the few occassions I was in edinburgh, It would have aided my escape ... er I mean allowed me out the city centre a lot more quickly.

If cyclists use it, I don't see why we shouldn't

The studies in London were mostly based around the impact of Motorcycle usage on accident rates, especially involving cyclists.

As far as I know bus lanes in Cardiff still aren't open to bikers...

They'd better change it soon because Cardiff is absolutely terrible at rush hour... Pretty much the entire city turns into one giant gridlock. That's what happens when the busiest roads in the city are far too narrow and can't be widened (St Mary's Street, Westgate street etc).
