 |
|
Hey,
I own an Xr125 07 plate and it doesnt have a gear indicator! (Wooo)
Im pretty much getting used to knowing what gear im in now by counting ( )
but was just wondering does anyone know of any places i can buy a cheap gear indicator from???
Im checking ebay at the moment expecting some chinese shabby doo dang to come up but that will probably be dodgy.
Im still learning got the bike 2 weeks ago do you think i need to buy a bigger screen for it? There only thirty quid in HG so i might pop along and get one but it might look stupid on the XR :S?!?!
https://www.bebo.com/PhotoAlbumBig.jsp?MemberId=14153760&PhotoAlbumId=3911177090&PhotoId=3911216762
Cheers for any input

I personally wouldnt bother with either.
Once you've been riding a bit more you'll know when it's time to change gear. Though on a 125 it is a bit harder as its pretty much being ragged all the time.
As for the screen, I think it'd look daft on a bike like that. Leave it as it. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

First off demontweeks do that sort thing so check out their site.
Second personally I would say dont bother as I found myself looking at the digital gear indicator on my chinese import when I changed and however briefly it was done my attention would have been better spent on the road. There are too many totally oblivious car drivers out there to risk looking at your gear indicator, you'll get used to it |

My bike came with a gear in indicator as standard and for the first few months i was staring at it but now i don't. I rarely even use it (i might use it to see when its clunked out of gear into neutral at lights...or to make sure i am actually in 1st ready to do a traffic light GP ) |

Are these things becoming more and more popular? Ive noticed that a few of the sports 600's Ive been looking at have had them fitted and in particular a couple of 636's.
I was always taught by the macho brigade that these were never to be used by a man and should never desicrate a vehicle.
The only gear issue I ever have is running out of them. How about a red flashing light when your in top, or will the flashing blue one behind work just as well I wonder? ____________________ RS125 > CBR6 > SV650S > ZX636R > GSX1300RZ Hayabusa > 06 RSVR Mille > SV1000S > Street Triple 765 RS |

Ok general consensus negative =]
the other part of the problem is i dont have a rev counter on it either!
And as the engine is brand new sometimes i try and pull off in second and end up stalling lots well a week ago maybe now im better
Cheers all

I've seen some people put little stickers on their speedos to show the redline in each gear - ok, you do have to know what gear you're in - but it's fairly obvious from the revs.
Generally though, you should ride in the right bit of the rev range and in the end you will get used to the sound and feel - can't keep looking down at the instruments as it would distract you from what's ahead. |

Whenever you come to total stop, well just before hand, pull the clutch in and kick it down all the gears until you are definitely in first (when you push down there will be no gear click ) that way you won't pull off in second.
When I started I think I tried pull away in fourth gear, needless to say that went badly - to make things worse my clutch was adjusted wrong so my bike wouldn't start in gear ____________________ Past: 55 Sym Jet, 91 ZZR250, 03 NSR125R. Present: 97 ER-5.

I know im in the right gear just dont really bother to count and know im actually in lol. Although the annoying thing about having a 125 is that you have to rag it to get anywhere. I also try and change from 6th to 7th ____________________ Speedfight 50 -> Honda NSR 125 -> Y reg YAMAHA YZF R6 -> 08 YAMAHA YZF R6 -> Honda CBR1000RR
