I am designing a new tattoo, which is almost done, It's currently paper drawn by pencil but I want to put it on PC to "fine tune" it and be able to resize to suit.

Not sure how to go about doing this.... do I need to buy a pen tablet and trace the drawing on the pen tablet to pc? or is it possible to scan it and convert it in photoshop?

I am pretty good at photoshop stuff, just not this particular thing as I've never had to do it before!

Any help would be great.

You can do either methods, but most people go for the scanning one (its easier than redrawing it in most cases, and you have a constant reference)

Plus, decent tablets are expensive (think:wacom)

Scan it into photoshop and use the pen tool to trace the lines.
It's dead easy, and you can do it with your mouse.

If you use the Pen in PhotoShop you dont need a steady hand. You can click it to draw between points in a straight line or click it, keep your mouse down to manipulate + bend the straigh line you just drew.

Does that make any sense??

I agree about using the pen tool but i tend to feel that if you've got Adobe Illustrator, use that, as it's alot better for line drawing type jobs that you're trying to do.. Thumbs Up

I've taken a picture of the design on my phone and uploaded to PC, not great quality but good enough to trace off with the pen tool, however, I've tried to do it with the pen tool but its turned out shite! Not the perfect line shapes I wanted and lines were too thin, didnt look right at all.

Anyone any good at doing this and fancy doing me a favour?? If so let me know and I'll PM you the pic!

Cheers.

This is the drawing, want the lines to be smooth etc if that makes sense.

the star has to stay as I already got that, the dragon is an extension to it.

Great effort thanks for that Thumbs Up

It's not perfect as such but gives me a good base to work on improving the imperfections from my original drawing.

How did you change the line size with the pen tool? as when I did it the line was really stupidly thin

I used the pen > path tool? is that right? Once I done the line it then feckin dissapeared!! im lost to be honest Laughing

Need to make a fair few changes/improvements so gotta learn to do bits myself as well.
